Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said troops raided the hideout of a top terrorist suspect in southern Marawi city on Tuesday, sparking a gunbattle that prompted the militants to call for reinforcements from an allied group, the Maute. He said dozens of gunmen occupied city hall, a hospital and a jail and burned a Catholic church, a jail, a college and some houses in a bold attack that killed at least two soldiers and a police officer and wounded 12 others. "The whole of Marawi city is blacked out, there is no light, and there are Maute snipers all around," Lorenzana said in the news conference in Moscow, which was broadcast live in the Philippines. Duterte's martial law declaration will help government forces carry out searches and arrests and detain rebel suspects more quickly, Lorenzana said. He said offensives would also be staged in other southern provinces plagued by extremist groups. Despite the moves, he said the government remains in control of the situation in Marawi city and other security trouble spots in the south.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/UoqG52A.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/NPkKcgQ.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/vQr4aaT.jpg[/t]
I suppose it was only a matter of time, given how violent the place has been lately. Pray for the Philippines.

My thoughts go out to the people in the Philippines. I have online and reallife friends there (not sure which part of Philippines they are in, though). I hope they're okay.
Not a big fan of duterte. But whatever drives these spineless fucks out... Good luck for the Philippines, god speed
I've got family in the Philippines. All I can offer them is prayers and hope they're okay. This is just nuts.
I've heard isolated reports that it is ISIS taking hold in the phillipines. i'm currently trying to find a source. http://metro.co.uk/2017/05/23/isis-militants-raise-black-flag-as-they-battle-for-control-of-city-in-philippines-6655959/
just an awful situation
Knowing Duterte I somehow expected this to be recreative martial law
wait snip i might not know as much as i thought
This is awful and I hope it gets resolved with minimal civilian lives lost as possible
I've got family in the Philippines. All I can offer them is prayers and hope they're okay. This is just nuts.
You can do much more than pray as a matter of fact! Including such actions as: Informing your family of the Palmyra atoll and its legal status, encourage your able bodied family members to get into the shipping industry as crew members, or you could start a family owned weapons cartel/guild insuring and acting as a broker for the many backyard machinists making your family too important to be endangered. I'm shooting in the dark here as I know nothing of your life but I hope that any of this information could be useful for you and your family to benefit from your situation.
