My Fender Squier P-Bass has a really iffy tone knob. About half the time it will make the output staticky or clean rather than giving the bass a more muffled, muddy sound that it should have when turned up.

Help is appreciated, durr hurr.
Tighten it up and get rid of any dust that might be under there, but you're probably best off taking it to a guitar store and having them fix it.

Or it could be the cable. Do you use the cable that came with your guitar?
If it's static-y, it just needs cleaned.
