French Socialist government leaders and Green deputies are at odds after the death of a protester during clashes with paramilitary police at the site of a controversial dam project in south-west France. Rémi Fraisse, a 21-year-old student, died instantly on Saturday night after being hit in the back by a grenade, according to the results of an autopsy. However, the conclusions of further analyses, which should indicate whether the weapon was fired by gendarmes or by protesters, are not expected until later on Tuesday. Protesters opposed to the Sivens dam project in the Tarn region say it will destroy a reservoir of biodiversity and will benefit only a small number of farmers. Those promoting the project say the dam is in the public interest as it will ensure irrigation and the development of high-value crops.

A police grenade was today blamed for the death of a young French eco-protester as fellow activists said Francois Hollande's government has blood on its hands. Remi Fraisse, 21, died early on Sunday morning during a fight with riot officers as he campaigned against the building of the Sivens Dam in the south west Tarn region of France. Seven police officers were injured after around 2,000 people gathered to protest, with some throwing Molotov Cocktails. Bunch of cunts.
police should've used tasers
Molotovs don't hurt pigs, though! *sigh* Police State: Worldwide tour I see.
police should've used tasers
[sp] Should have just shot the grenade in the knee [/sp] Seriously though, why would you even throw explosives at police, they are just people doing their job, "lets try kill or maim people so they don't blow up our dam, that's obviously more important" fucking retards
none of them cared about injuring seven policemen though, idiots how dare they do something about being lit on fire
People won't stop accusing officers of brutality until the cops just assume a fetal position and cry whenever they're ordered to do their jobs.
Molotovs don't hurt pigs, though! *sigh* Police State: Worldwide tour I see.
Who was it that said that again, fucking hilarious.
Who was it that said that again, fucking hilarious.
yawmwen iirc
Who was it that said that again, fucking hilarious.
Yawmen im sure. Actually more than sure.
Why uncertain origin ? Regardless, the use of grenades by police just got suspended by the politics. This is turning into a media clusterfuck here in France, " public opinion shocked police kill hippie with deadly millitary explosive tnt weapon " and all that. He took the risk, he (sadly) loss. When you stay in the middle of a forest where grenades and molotovs are flying all over the place, you know what to expect.

Nice reading :v:

The ones that claim it WAS confirmed to be from the police either mistranslated their own French sources or were trying to be sensationalist. It's very likely a police grenade thrown after the molotovs started raining, and if that's the case then there's going to be an investigation to find out whether or not that was allowed. Little shits got what was coming to them though, you just don't throw explosives at the police and expect things to go smooth. There's a video of the incident somewhere, I just couldn't find it. It's hilarious how most of the protesters are either barefooted white douchebags with dreadlocks or edgy little shits like this guy Or just cringeworthy people.

Le TNT figure en effet « dans la composition des charges des grenades lacrymogènes ou offensives utilisées par les gendarmes » , a précisé le procureur.
[editline]29th October 2014[/editline] actually nvm that's basically what you said
When you're throwing molotovs, rocks and whatnot, you're legitimately trying to kill or seriously hurt someone. If this was a situation with a single police man against a single guy with a molotov, the guy with the molotov would get shot on the spot. The police of course can't shoot indiscriminately at a group (and they most definitely shouldn't), but it's no surprise that there are fatalities in these clashes, and honestly I don't think you can blame the police too much. The demonstrators were definitely beyond what constitutes a peaceful protest.

These people are trained to keep your ass in line and they're armed. If you manage to somehow stir enough shit that the CRS (the riot department of the gendarmes) has to respond with fucking grenades, you know you've fucked up your protest.
What bothers me is that so many people are gonna use this to facilitate the 'police brutality' bandwagon even further, regardless of the origins of the grenade.
What bothers me is that so many people are gonna use this to facilitate the 'police brutality' bandwagon even further, regardless of the origins of the grenade.
According the the guardian comments (take them as you will) the thing which killed him was a stun grenade exploding at close proximity.
being a cop isn't a job. it's a full-time career as a class traitor.
being a cop isn't a job. it's a full-time career as a class traitor.
You're on a full time job shitposting, that's for sure. I think you'll learn to appreciate the police force when you get robbed or whatever.
You're on a full time job shitposting, that's for sure. I think you'll learn to appreciate the police force when you get robbed or whatever.
And you're a newfag.
According the the guardian comments (take them as you will) the thing which killed him was a stun grenade exploding at close proximity.
They found traces of TNT on the body so it wasn't a stun grenade. There's no official nature reserves around there or anything, they're just mad because trees are getting cut down.

As for the dam thing it would be more than cutting down trees. Making dams requires you to flood a load of land, often destroying loads of ecosystem which is a more legitimate cause than a few trees being cut down.
Thanks, just found this: The Tarn council states that the dam would supply much-needed irrigation to surrounding farms, but activists argue it would kill off wildlife, including 94 protected species that reside in the forest. It'd help if the "Rural, family farms" in France would stop farming oldschool and start using more greenhouses. They actually recycle a lot of the water in greenhouses, so not only do you need less water, you're also keeping all the nutrition out of the groundwater, and in the cycle. Plus Europe wouldn't have to pay such amounts of subsidies for them :shakefist:

We don't get rain consistently and typically there's a small part of the year where everything gets flooded and the wind picks up to absurd speeds, and greenhouses usually get annihilated whenever this happens.
