UPDATED, 7:22 PM: We don’t know if he’ll shoot first, but he has the job. Alden Ehrenreich will play Han Solo in Disney’s stand-alone Star Wars movie, confirming what Deadline reported exclusively three weeks ago. Sources say the Hail Caesar! star is negotiating to seal the deal.
It's been rumored for awhile now, but it's finally confirmed: Alden Ehrenrecih gets the role. For those that weren't following along, the other finalists that were being considered were Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) and Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some!!). Bit of a missed opportunity tho to not have announced this on May the 4th, but they did at least tweet out a picture of a rather important prop from the film

Also since I know some people are gonna reply to say "UGH WHY ARE THEY MAKING THIS", I'm just gonna go ahead and point out this is a Phil Lord and Chris Miller film. If there's one thing every film they've directed has in common, it's everyone questioning the concept and predicting it'll suck, only for the movie to release and turn out to be gr8. These guys are absurdly talented, and this movie is gonna be awesome.
I really hope they stick to some of the original Extended Universe stuff and have Han be a Imperial Cadet only to desert after saving Chewie from slavery. It made a great film I think.
He's not the best pick, but they could've done worse. Hopefully he can pull the part off anyways with quality acting.
Neat.
I'd still prefer an Obi-Wan solo film tho.
wow no jesse eisenberg? wtf

Prequels butchered Obi-Wan as a character. Him and his whole section of the possible expanded universe. That damage cannot be undone.

What how? Obi-wan was one of the sole redeeming aspects of the prequels. He was great, Ewan McGregor was really good in that role.

*nervous muttering*
Getting a role in a SW movie is like winning the lottery for them.
I honestly have no idea how in the world they would manage to cast anyone fitting for this role
Nobody on planet earth captures Han Solo quite like Ford does. He's one of those casts that ARE their character, like Robert Downy Jr. and Tony Stark. Why couldnt we just have had another Ewan McGregor Obi Wan movie and have held off for the young Han Solo movie until we can clone Harrison Fords?
dude looks like a shoe-in for a young jack nicholson/leo dicaprio/gilbert gottfried amalgamation
though from the list we were shown before he's far from the worst candidate to have taken the reins
When will there be yaoi fan fic of young han solo making out with kylo ren?

Making out with his own unborn child?

Pause
Shit, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller? I'm hyped.

I'd even be more okay with them doing what they did to Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy and using CG to make Harrison Ford look young.
I can at least see this movie potentially being not terrible but it's still not really a great idea to begin with.
I feel like his face is too square.
Yung Han Solo, hot new rapper
I really couldn't care less who is going to play who in all these new Star Wars movies because I've never heard of any of these people anyway.
It worked out for The Force Awakens though so I guess I'm ok with it.

Ew, no
I was really hoping for an Obi Wan standalone film. Kind of nervous about this.
Fuck, I was really hoping it'd be Jack Reynor

pls no
doing that is pretty much straight to the uncanny valley - the 'young' Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy looked creepy and unnatural, just like the weird and unnecessary CGI makeover they gave JGL in Looper

That was sort of my point, like I'd be more okay with that than this weird recasting of a character who is 99% Harrison Ford
(and also realistically speaking, Tron Legacy was 6 years ago and this is Star Wars we're talking about so they could probably make it actually work)
Well if anyone's seen Civil War they dad a really damn good job making RDJ look younger for one scene
It can be done
I'm ok with a star wars film not about jedi/sith.

It's also really expensive so why bother?
Wrong choice of actor
why?
he's only been in like 2 movies and he's v good
I wonder how they'll explain how Han lost that jawline in when he got older
