Felipe Massa has undergone emergency surgery after suffering skull damage and concussion in a high-speed accident during Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying. Ferrari say that the outcome was "positive" and that Massa will remain under observation in intensive care. The Italian team will make a further statement on his condition on Sunday. Massa slammed into a tyre wall after a spring that had fallen off Rubens Barrichello's Brawn car seconds earlier flew up and hit his helmet. The force of each impact was considerable - and the incident comes days after Formula Two driver Henry Surtees, 18, was killed in what was described as a "freak" accident during a race at Brands Hatch. The son of motorsport legend John Surtees was struck by a wheel which flew off a competitor's car. source > http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8168807.stm Final destination moment there, never really liked him anyway
:ohdear:
Holy shit, they were acting as if he was going to be fine, saying that he was talking normally and himself in hospital... He must've taken a turn.
what a waste... cool car gets destroyed also, the ride must've been smashing
Wow, almost an identical accident to that which caused the death a few days ago. Obviously not a tire, but an object flying off someone elses car and hitting 2 people in the face in the space of a few days. What are the chances.
I watched this today. I thought it hit him harder than they were letting on.
Goddamn it, that asshole steals his championship last year and now he's getting hurt and Ferrari is doing terrible. Fucking F1 nowadays.
Barrichello needs to keep himself together it seems, also from the video they showed, it didn't really look like it hit him very hard, considering he was also wearing a full crash helmet.

Lucky fucker.
i find it ironic that a soft tire can kill a man and i hard metal spring going at double the speed can only put somebody in a coma (then again the tire is much bigger)
Fuck man, I saw the video of the news. He hit that wall at some bloody speed.
i find it ironic that a soft tire can kill a man and i hard metal spring going at double the speed can only put somebody in a coma (then again the tire is much bigger)
you do realise just because a thing is soft to touch, doesn't mean it's painless when it comes flying at you over 100mph bad quality image, but you can see the spring flying up towards him.
OF ALL PLACES, it hit him in the head, Massa is my favorite f1 racer. He better not fucking die or I will kill myself. Also, R.I.P Henry Surtees [editline]10:02PM[/editline]
Barrichello needs to keep himself together it seems, also from the video they showed, it didn't really look like it hit him very hard, considering he was also wearing a full crash helmet.
I don't believe Barrichello's driving was at fault.... It was a mechanical failure, Barrichelo is a skilled driver, it wouldn't be his fault
There has been worse crashes. I'm not worried.
i find it ironic that a soft tire can kill a man and i hard metal spring going at double the speed can only put somebody in a coma (then again the tire is much bigger)
a drop of water going at 400 mph will probably hurt. a lot. :v
I saw this on the qualifying today, I hope he's alright.
I'm from Brazil, he's like a hero here :ohdear:
The whole of the F1 today was a bit odd, between Massa's near death experience, the complete fuck up with the times at the end of Q3 and hearing Button shout 'fucking hell' after hearing Alonso's time. Glad Massa is meant to be okay, it seemed a bit odd how a 'knock on the chin' resulted in him been rushed to hospital, Button's car getting a complete check over and Brawn not allowing Barrichello's car to be filmed.
i don't get how the debris was still rolling down the track like that when button was no where in sight.
There has been worse crashes. I'm not worried.
The crash wasn't the problem.
The Surtees/massa incidents were very fucking unlikely, Like how does something bounce that far and hit you in the head
Yeah, that qualification as really a nut job.
