I think Disney got too big for their britches by trying to do 3 Star Wars films in less than a year and a half
This can only be a good thing really, at worst, they just decided they like the winter revenue more.
Hasn't Star Wars historically been a winter series anyways? Since then they don't need to compete with other blockbusters (although lol, Star Wars compete)
Yeah, I don't mind. They can take their time as long as it ends up awesome

Every past Star Wars film has come out in May except for Force Awakens. Though with this new change, they will be competing against James Cameron's Avatar 2.
It was meant to come out in May, on the same day Episode 4 came out in 1977

well if you're disney and you own both star wars and marvel you have to make room for both, marvel is entering its final stages just as star wars is starting up

lol, avatar had nothing good to compete against, at best is an OK movie, but today you're just watching a nearly full CGI movie which i have no taste for, i have no doubt cameron can make a good sequel, (he's got a very good history of doing it) but avatar isn't nearly as amazing as it was in 2009

Avatar 2? The last one was so forgettable I didn't realize they were even making a sequel
wow i thought there wasn't anything memorable that came out the last quarter of 2009 but damn

nothing, today however we have tons of great movies comming out to compete against, avatar will flop against them
Avatar 2? The last one was so forgettable I didn't realize they were even making a sequel
avatar is the highest grossing film ever made
Avatar 2? The last one was so forgettable I didn't realize they were even making a sequel
It's a trilogy I think.
I remember actually falling asleep during the movie, only time it's ever happened to me :v:
avatar is the highest grossing film ever made
because the tickets were like 25$ a pop
Avatar 2? The last one was so forgettable I didn't realize they were even making a sequel
did you see it in imax? cause avatar in that particular medium is anything but forgettable. however, it is just a mediocre movie in anything that isn't imax
That's cool with me. Rian Johnson is directing it and I love his work.

he has 2 more planned, so 4 movies total. apparently he has a lot of confidence in Avatar
avatar is the highest grossing film ever made
This surprises me. It was an alright movie, but nothing amazing.

That's its one defining trait other than "pocahantas in space" and "blue cat people"
What I liked about Avatar is how Cameron wasn't afraid to slow down the movie to show the world they created; Pandora, its flora and fauna and the Navi culture. Yeah, it's a bit like a documentary about blue Indians living in African jungle on another planet, but for me it was a refreshing change in the sci-fi genre.
Look at new Star Trek movies for example, they are more action movies then movies about "exploring strange new worlds, and seeking new life and civilizations". I would say Avatar is my favorite Star Trek movie.

so? still absolutely forgettable
Well, That last film wasn't really that great.
I already assumed it was coming out in December 2017.
:snip:
nevermind

I'm thinking more of the toy sales leading up to christmas
I'm thinking more of the toy sales leading up to christmas
The original release was on the 40th Anniversary of A New Hope though. The original date was on purpose.
Avatar 2 is going to get destroyed. The original movie was built around gimmicks and pushed IMAX ticket sales. There's pretty much nothing new the sequel could bring to the table. Maybe it'll make a lot overseas, but it's gonna bomb here.
I'm not sure how I feel about episode vii yet. I only saw it once, but I didn't walk away thinking "holy shit that was everything it was hyped up to be".
Like, I don't really have any emotions towards it

I won't be watching Pocahontas 2: Return of the Blue Man Group if I could be seeing Star Wars instead.
Wow, coming into this thread was a shock, I've personally always loved the first Avatar and didn't know they were doing a second one. Hope they have some amazing visuals like the original did.

I still like the "name a character and quote a line from the movie" challenge
Can't do it with Avatar
