This revision of Europe's borders has only come into effect in Russia itself, meaning that when viewed from the rest of the world the divide is still marked with the bold dotted line reserved for internationally-disputed territories. Perhaps more bizarrely, the update actually only seems to affect the border line itself – place names within Crimea are still listed as being part of Ukraine (such as Simferopol, Crimea, Ukraine).
Source
Well, yeah, google is going to show people what they want to see; it's what they do.
Google inadvertently now has a powerful tool for international recognition. A lot of news sites have already made articles in the past based on Google's recognition of countries, I wonder how serious and impacting that role will be in the future.
The government defines the border, so of course they're going to go by what the local government says.
Man, where is bad reading when you need it? I mean come on, the OP even has descriptions of the lines you're looking for.
I had to go refresh my geographical knowledge of the area, I was looking in the way wrong place :downs:
They should remove the border.
It's probably more of a "do this or get the fuck out of our country, Google" from Russia
It's probably more of a "do this or get the fuck out of our country, Google" from Russia
You assume Google has some kind of loyalty. They're out to make money, that usually means buddying up to governments for lax regulations/overlooking their tax abuses, this is them buddying up to Russia.
google should start slowly giving more of canada to the us until the entirety is owned by us and see how long it takes for people to notice
Probably a couple of hours after the first change
