Kinda hoping Episode 3 content would be discovered instead Especially since Valve have confirmed that the HL2 Episodes are a trilogy

Thought it said episode three. Got sad. Anyways, it's always a shame to lose content, but I feel like it was a good decision to drop whatever Arkane Studios was doing. The models and animations don't really feel like "Half-Life", more of a recreation of it instead. Too clean, though perhaps that may have had something to do with the unknown plot period of EP4: Return To Ravenholm.

Super intricate analyses of half-assed screenshots and model renders This is what you've reduced us to, Valve
Episode 4 WAS return to ravenholm.
That's what I meant?
A chemist found out what that apparatus was.
Hello, chemist here filling you in as much as i can with the science. First off im using the image @3:18. This is a hood used to remove vapors from the reaction vessels inside. The grey circular things on the bottom of the flasks are heating mantle used to heat the reactions. On the far right looks like a temperature control unit (TCU) used to control the reaction temperatures. I have never seen the copper cylinder in* the middle of the hood nor the copper pipe on the right below the TCU.
I sometimes miss the old Valve. It's all about games that have micro transactions now, like how even Portal 2 had that. What if they are just stumped at how to put in Microtransactions in the HL series? Then it comes out guys, Valve just take my money, I dont need no really
A chemist found out what that apparatus was.
That copper cylinder could be a kettle used in steam distillation.
Super intricate analyses of half-assed screenshots and model renders This is what you've reduced us to, Valve
Hasn't this been what the Half Life Fanbase has been doing for like 12 years now?
HL3 is dead to me now.
HL3 is dead to me now.
It hasn't even been born yet
Can anyone explain what Half Life: Episode Four is? Is it a mod or something?
It hasn't even been born yet
It's a stillborn, it's impossible to get this much hype and not disappoint fans who waited years for the game.
It's really sad when this is the closest thing we get to Half-Life info in years.
Can anyone explain what Half Life: Episode Four is? Is it a mod or something?
Think of Episode Four as an official 3rd-party expansion for Half-Life 2, much like Gearbox's Blue Shift and Opposing Force for Half-Life 1.
It's really sad when this is the closest thing we get to Half-Life info in years.
There was the leaked Episode 3 concept art a few months ago. Edit: Apparently it's been almost a year since that concept art. Wow.
its been 6 years
Damn this would have been cool, except for the headcrabless zombies of course, now that is a dumb idea. I bet that it inspired L4D's development though.
Can anyone explain what Half Life: Episode Four is? Is it a mod or something?
Episode Three was meant to complete the series(and still is hopefully) and Episode 4 was to be a spinoff made by Arkane Studios.
Damn this would have been cool, except for the headcrabless zombies of course, now that is a dumb idea. And L4D was actually inspired by the development on CS:S.

And L4D was actually inspired by the development on CS:S.
Someone in the HL thread had this to say about that:
Judging from the zombie we see, it might have been a precursor to Left 4 Dead. I know Left 4 Dead came from a bunch of knife bots in CSS but the next step might have been and SP HL2 campaign. Valve not knowing how to link it into the series called Ep4. However after confusion as to where to take the series for EP3, that scrapped the idea of it being an episode and made it it's own game separate from HL, leaving Valve to go where they wanted when they wanted and not wasting too much development. That's my idea about Episode 4.
Makes sense to me, L4D also reuses the abandoned hospital theme in the first campaign of the game.
we just want a fucking game
Episode Three was meant to complete the series(and still is hopefully) and Episode 4 was to be a spinoff made by Arkane Studios.
Not to complete the series, but to complete the Half Life 2 story arc. They could then make a Half Life 3 with a new setting and story.
Half Life 3 will come out eventually, it's not like there's a shortage of games to play in the interim..
I don't really want a Half Life 3, I just want them to release Episode 3 and then make something new.
I don't really want a Half Life 3, I just want them to release Episode 3 and then make something new.
It's been about 5-6 years since Episode 2 came out. Half-Life 2 came out 6 years after Half-Life 1 did. If all we get is an Episode 3 that's roughly the same size as the other episodes, I will be several disappointed. If we get both an Episode 3 and Half-Life 3, I will be satisfied.
