Ahmed Mohamed is gone now, off to Qatar after collecting the clock that transformed him from MacArthur High School student to White House guest. And that, as they say, is that.

But no, not really. It’s not even November, and already the year-end lists are beginning to circulate — like, say, today’s from Time, which ticks off the list of The 30 Most Influential Teens of 2015. No need to flash the Spoiler Alert. You can see where this is going. At least it’s not ranked by “influence.”
Well, he was influential enough that we keep making threads about him.
There is not one scrap of catharsis from this entire situation. No takeaway. There's no racism to be seen, the kid isn't being oppressed because he's a muslim, because he's a genius, or whatever. The kid was arrested for liability reasons, and he didn't even do anything impressive. He thought "I'll do this totally unimpressive thing, bring it to school, and people will think I'm smart".
Now he's just milking it for the free shit. Kids a hustler, I'll give him that.

How the fuck is he a modern day hero? He took a prebuilt clock (that I might add was probably made by someone half his age in china), took out the guts of it, and put it into a suitcase. Then he was arrested because people thought it was a bomb, and then the media blew it way out of proportion.

Was really hoping it so say "joins a gang" or "joins ISIS" or something just to fuck with everyone's worldview.
wow i didn't know a victim of a false accusation deserves to be called a modern day hero while going to the white house and qatar after all he did was bring a lot of undeserved attention so he can be worshipped as a god that did absolutely nothing
Malala actually does shit of value...

This entire situation feels like we're trying to cater to his feelings for fear of hurting them further after apologizing wasn't enough. So we keep letting him do all this cool, free shit for appeasement and now he's a "modern day hero" for it. This is a complete exaggeration.

Haha what?

there's an implied "and," they're taking about Malala Yousafzai, not Malia Obama. They're both on the list.

Yeah I stumbled on that, too. Though to be honest at this point it wouldn't surprise me if Malia had one.
Education City of Qatar actually hosts some of the most extreme preachers that support terrorist activities.
If this kid fulfills the ultimate circle of irony and I wouldn't be surprised. In interviews this kid doesn't seem like the brightest bulb.
Also how the fuck is Malia Obama influential?
The list is a joke.
I wouldn't think about it too hard when Jaden Smith is on it.

I love how the writer still pokes at him and basically says, "Oh yeah he is on here because basically his dad is famous and can afford his career."
The fact that this list compares the achievements of Malala Yousafzai and Jaden Smith is a joke.

"School isn't authentic because it ends"
Read some existentialism did we? Too bad what makes something authentic is its death. RIP
This list is irrelevant. Lets just ignore it and move on.
Anything regarding "teen achievements" is usually dumb as hell. There are exceptions of course, but this just reeks of Nickelodeon shit.

Watch Mohamed turn out to be a useless version of the terrorist The Engineer.
Are they implicitly trying to disprove claims of societal racism? I don't remember any other kid kid receiving this type of treatment for racial discrimination.
He made a box clock and some idiots thought it was a bomb and everyone started coddling him he definitely changed the world
He put a clock-face into a pencil box suitcase...
My hero.
Didn't this kid just disassemble a clock and put it in a custom case to claim he built the entire thing by himself?
"School isn't authentic because it ends"
That somehow manages to make no sense :v:
Well shit any kid that can solder CPUs is the next Gandhi, I tell you what.

Par for the course for Jayden Smith's "philosophy"
Ahmed being praised as a genius is inane and dumb, just like that "kid who dreams in code". They are no bill gates, they are no steve jobs, they aren't even a John Carmack. Their achievements are equal to that of any normal programmer or electrician. Just because they started young means jack shit.
Praise people who actually have achieved something. Not someone who put a clock in a box and was announced a national hero just because post-911 America fears dark skinned people.

The Takeaway is TIME magazine is firmly in SJW territory, and not the "ironic internet label" kind. Their electronic entertainment editor is a racist progressive, their managing editor came from PBS and before that a hyper liberal newspaper.
And yet the kid that got expelled because the teacher said he ate his toast into the shape of a gun is no where to be found on the list.
what a load of crock
This is some Onion grade shit.

I wouldn't give him that much credit. His father, who is a known Islamic activist (even running for office in Sudan), probably arranged this whole show. He's the one who's been playing these supine fucks like a damn fiddle.
