We are sad to report that Steam is down at the time of writing on November 3, 2016. We initially thought this could be due to scheduled maintenance, but actually it appears that a hacking group may have been the reason for why Steam is down today with one group already claiming responsibility.
Well that fucking sucks.
Is DDOS really regarded as hacking though?
I can still log out and in freely, no issues in Belgium for some reason...
I don't really see the point in doing something like this but hurray, good job, I guess they did the thing.
HACKING
LEET SKILL
GET HACKED

Usually more regarded as manchildren who want to feel more important than they really are.
Guess it didn't last long, my friendlist and the website is back again for me after some "maintenance".

About as much as a script kiddie in video games.
was about to play another game of CS:GO, rip
[editline]4th November 2016[/editline]
and it's back.. already... i think
What are DDOSers even trying to accomplish, do they want people to feel threatened or be impressed by this? Renting a botnet doesn't exactly take a ton of skill, they look more like a bunch of children throwing a tantrum to me
What's with all these different DDoS "squads"? There's like Lizard Squad, Phantom Squad, Poodle Corp, whatever, there's like twelve different ones. Are they just all a bunch of dank memers working independently that just happen to have similar names, or different squadrons of one big DDoS group?
wow that was really bad
/s
Ooh yeah your real scary!-Scout
That pretty much sums this up.
Still works for me. Though, hope they make a mistake one day and get busted. Friggn laughingstocks

what are they trying to achieve other than looking like massive douchebags on a worldwide scale

They're more than likely just a bunch of different groups of kids using their parent's money to rent botnets. Hence why they nearly always just DDOS gaming services and never do anything that requires any real 'hacking' skills.
Might explain why it took so long for csgo to connect to the servers
And I am the man behind 9/11.
CSGO servers are not working at all. Not sure about other games.
This is silly. They're probably using that Mirai code that got posted on a certain forum. And they want to claim anything is retarded.
I really hope they get caught for this obviously illegal act.
This is a serious operation

im able to connect to matchmaking servers, are they targeting different countries?
what are they trying to achieve other than looking like massive douchebags on a worldwide scale
they just want to epically troll everybody by causing an inconvenience that can be easily fixed. They don't care about any negative publicity or reactions of any kind, it just matters to them they brought down a network for shits and giggles.

Idk, I play on EU servers and it's not working at all. Not sure about the rest

Either it's some script kid(s) renting a botnet, or a botnet operator demonstrating how powerful his botnet is to potential customers.
Judging by his tweets it's probably the former.
Everything's working fine for me, it just took a little while for my friends list to come online. If this is their idea of a serious attack they're a bunch of morons.
must feel kind of stupid now

Do they uh, not fully grasp the concept of Steam's services? I can't bring myself to believe such a thing though. Honesty it basically doesn't matter if Steam is offline, considering I can still play any of my currently installed games regardless if I can connect or not. :v:
What games besides the three on SteamStat.us are even affected? It's not like every steam user is suddenly booted from their library lol.
Wonder if they will try and backpedal. "Jk lol wasn't us!"
Seriously though if they had succeeded there would be no point at all, unless they wanted jail time
