Hello, my name is eJonKou and I am quite intressted in the history of you Facepunchians :) I am wondering if you have had any family in a war. You could tell a tale or just say what family member was in what war.
It doesnt matter what war or anything.
Edit: Please dont start to flame saying your dad was Adolf Hitler, or Bismark , Stalin or whatever...
I can start.
My grand dad was in the Korean war(He didnt participate in the 2nd WW)
and I heard this story from my grandmother that when they had a break from the war for a few days
they went to Shanghai and there were this Officer Bar only Officers allowed in, while the Recruits had to drink some
dirty water from the sea. So when everbody went to sleep him and he's army buddys went to the bar and torched it down so nobody
could have any Alcoholic Drinks, they took the alcohol and dumped it in the water.
My grandad died about one year before I was born, and when I grow up I will give him he's last wish, I will spread he's ashes over the Harbour in Hong Kong, it was he's favorit place on earth.
Any other stories out there? Can be sad, can be happy.
Me. (Peacekeeping but yeah)
My Uncle. (First Gulf War)
My Great Grandfather (World War I)
etc etc
My great grandfather was a brigadier general for germany during WW1.

Or WW2. I don't remember, I got some cool shit he left from war though.
I am Mexican decent. My family has the uniform that one of my grandfathers wore when he was fighting for Mexico's Independence.
Three of my uncles serve in the United States military.
Two in Army, one in the Navy and I am also planning on joining the U.S. Air force when I graduate High school
My grandpa was a rescue helicopter pilot in the Vietnam war
My dad was in the first Gulf War, my brother's been in the second, and served in Afghanistan. I think my grandad was in the RAF in WWII as well.
Had a few members who were POW's during WWI and WWII, sad thing is one of them who survived being a POW was killed a week later by a drunk driver. He was riding his bike home =(
Basically my entire family fought in wars or some type of armed conflict (all of my family until it goes back to my great-grandfather).
My grandfather and grandmother escaped from Morocco with the aid of other Jews and try to get to Israel (that was then known as Palestine). When they reached the shores of Israel they were deported to Cyprus. When the British Mandate expired - somewhen later around 1947 they left Cyprus and came to Israel. My grandfather joined to the Hagana - which later became the IDF (the Hagana, LEHI and the Irgun united to one military force) and fought at the Western Front against the Jordanian military. He also participated at the Six-Day-War at 1967.
My father participated in the 'First Lebanon War' - a war in which Israel fought against Syria and Lebanese militias at the shade of the Lebanese civil war. That war has officially ended at the year of 2000. All of my uncles and ants served either in the Six-Day-War (1967), Yom-Kippur War (1973) or the First Labenon War (1982-2000).
In Israel military service is mendatory and is 3 years in lenght for males. I'll be at the army in 2 years from now.
My great grandfather was killed by a Russian grenade shrapnel in WW2.
My Grandads brothers were fighting in WW2. In Northern part of Africa and Burma I believe. I havent heard alot off stories about them.
Edit: My family only got one remaining picture off my Grandfather. I didnt know how he looked like untill I visited my Grandma last summer.
i am mastor cheef lolollolo

Nope, my family have generally stuck to munitions logistics.
My second cousin's grandad fought in the 6th Division of the Australian Army during WW2 though.
My best friends in Afghanistan right now, I was supposed to be with him but I got discharged in basic because my eyes are a lil' screwy
Dad - Vietnam.
Thanks for the hearts
I have three grandpas since my Dad's mom remarried. So one served in the U.S Navy and took part in the Korean War. My two Polish Grandpas were around during WW2 but didn't actively participate in fighting the Nazis. Particularly because they preferred to have the Nazi's occupying their area way more than the Soviets. My dad was a conscript in the Polish Communist Army, and my Sister and her husband both were in Iraq a few years ago they were in the Marines. A large amount of my family was in the military, I just don't bother taking the time to name them all.
My grandpa was a young boy during ww2. Old enough to recall germans taking first all bicycle tires leaving people driving them with no tires or makeshift tires made out of garden hose. Then they took their bicycles as well.
He was shipped to the Dutch east indies somewhere in the 40's/50's i think. He took his wife and kids with him there and lived there a couple years. Never shot a person but did see action. (told us about how much sten guns blow major balls. There's no safety so when this guy dropped his sten he shot a hole in the ceiling.)
Never dared to ask anything about it because he'd rather forget.
Some great-great-great uncle of mine fought in the Civil War. My grandfather was an officer in the Korean War.
And my brother's threatening to run off to the army. :smithicide:
My grandfather was a WW2 engineer.
Rank was Sargent.
He killed Germans, fought in both Europe and the Pacific.
Went into combat duty in Normandy France, around shortly before the battle of the bulge.
Participated in combat missions with the french resistance, the french saved his life twice, One gave him food when his platoon ran out of food.
2nd, seeing he was a engineer he was usually tasked with demolition, and diffusion of German mines.
One time he stepped on a "springing mine" definition can be found here
http://www.militarydictionary.com/definition/springing-mine.html
It was designed to fly up 6 feet (average high of a soldier) and explode when you stepped on it.
Well the french resistance had sabotaged it in the factors, seeing the Germans used POW's and civilians to build their bullets, guns, and mines.
well instead of exploding at head level, it went up, just high enough not to kill him.
Another story was later on,nearing the battle of Berlin, a few weeks before it.
He spotted 5 soldiers, and one SS officer in the woods.
He organized a ambush, the plan was he jump out in front with a gun, and his men come in from behind and all sides ( I guess he didn't want to just blow them away)
He did the plan, the German soldiers dropped there weapons, but the SS officer he said was "acting funny, he was clutching his Luger, he pulled it up to aim at me, then I shot him twice in the chest, and my men from the back put one through his head, the 5 other soldiers were not really up to fighting, they quickly gave up"
Another story
He was going through a town which the Americans already had cleared, there was a death camp on the edge of the town, the platoon/squad that had cleared the town, saw the death camps and the crimes against humanity and went on a rampage, killing every German, and civilian that lived in the town they saw. So before my grandfather went through this town, his superiors made everyone give up there weapons and ammo, as they were afraid they do what there fellow brothers had done. Well good thing they did, because he and his men wanted to kill every German they found.
Another story is AFTER the fighting in Europe, the pacific.
He was on a island (don't know then name :( )
The war was almost over, he arrived in the pacific a week before the bomb, they dropped the bomb, japan surrendered, but that dosn't mean there wasn't fighting. Well if you know anything about the war in the pacific islands, you know about the fox holes and the tunnel complex the Japaneses had. Well the command post, the last area of the island that had not been cleared was crawling with Japaneses soldiers, all in this cave, only one way in. Well the war was over, so they told them, they refused to come out, refused to believe the war was over (they have not had any communications for awhile). They had translators come down and try to tell them, they still refused they said "you're gonna have to kill us, we won't come out". Well that was it, they had to kill them, they didn't want to risk going in the cave and having a blood bath, so they gave my grandfather the job to plant explosives at the mouth of the cave, and to bury them alive.
So yeah... had a grandfather that went to WW2 kicked some ass, killed some Germans, stepped on a mine, at some historical battles.
Also fun fact, my last name is a military name, his last name before he entered was "dick" well for obvious reason that dosn't make a great military name "sgt dick come over here"
for obvious reasons im not saying the name he changed it too, but it is a class A military name.
My Grandpa flew a C-47 during the Berlin Airlift, and my uncle helped design and implement missile shields during the 80's, but neither of theses are technically wars. Cold wars, yes, hot wars, no.
My Grandfather on my father's side was a medical orderly in the Australian Air Force.
My grandfather on my mum's side was in the army, I think. not too sure.
some more realitives on my dad's side (spanish) were in the spanish civil war I think.
My Grandfather was stationed in Italy, sadly he died when I was of young age. All I know about him is he was a standard infantry man who fought and probably killed many people. He had PTS and later developed Mesothelioma/lung cancer from the asbestos used in ships and the like at the time. He was a great man, God rest his soul.
For people who are trying to find family members, like Stories and Photos off your parents/grandparents from the Korean War can visit this site. It looks prietty legit and I have already put out a 'thread' trying to find stories about my grandfather.

My grandpa was at the raising of the flag on D-day.
My grandfather fought in the Cod wars.
My grandfather fought in the Cod wars.
never heard of the cod wars; what were they like?
Great Grandfather hit the beaches at Omaha, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. I don't know a lot of details, that's about as much I could get out of anyone in my family. He never talked about it much and I don't blame him for it.
My Great Uncle was also captured and imprisoned at Dachau. Best man I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
My cousin died in Vietnam, at the age of 19. Cavalry Scout.
My other cousin was a Marine. Served in Baghdad, Fallujah, and was posted in Saudi Arabia.
My grandfather was Army, but was honorably discharged due to hearing loss.
I'm enlisting in the Army, hopefully as a Cavalry Scout, or EOD.
Had a great-great-great-great-great Grandfather who witnessed the battle of Antietam in the American Civil War. He wasn't a participant, but he lived nearby and watched the battle. After it was over, he snatched up a confederate battle flag that's still in family possession.
In WWI, I had a great-great-great Uncle who fought on the Western Front for the German Empire. Got shot in the face and shoulder. Lived, and then put the two rounds on the family stein.
And then there's my grandfather and his twin brother, my great uncle. They both signed up for the US Marine Corps during Korea. They did their training, and got orders to be shipped out. They arrived in Korea the LAST day of the war, hah.
Grandpa from mom's side served in the Marines during WW2.
Grandpa from dad's side served in the Navy during WW2.
Dad served in the Special Forces (as I plan to), operated in Lebanon.

Ah, the CoD wars. The first and only war where everybody where tactical nukes were deployed upon the requests of individual soldiers.
I know one of my great-uncles was a Polish tank commander in WWII, and I come from a military family, so there's bound to be more I don't know about.
