Ever wish Portal was a little more portable? Well wish no longer - GBATemp forum-goers Smealum and Lobo are crafting Aperture Science, a homebrew Portal game that can be played on a Nintendo DS. You can download a playable build right off Smealum's website now, but keep in mind that Aperture Science isn't complete, and the game requires a flash cart to play it.
I hope Valve hires this guy.
There was also a 2D version which was pretty fun
Looks better than a lot of 3D Nintendo DS games.
Edit: Gosh darn it now I have to be specific: This looks better than a lot of three dimensional games running on a Nintendo DS. I am NOT talking about the 3DS.
Does it actually run on a simplified version of Source? It kinda looks like it does, but either way they did a great job.
I suppose it doesn't come with Source's magnificent player movement system?

No disrespect to the guy and this is cool and all but why would Valve hire him? There's already crazy talented programmers at Valve, I highly doubt a homebrew DS game would even get you an interview.
I hope that doesn't sound bad, this is really cool, I just don't see why Valve would need to hire him. They don't even make DS games.
pretty cool although it looks terrible to control.

Nintendo should hire Maurice for making Mari0 then

It looks crazy impressive for a homebrew DS game, though.

It would be a nice touch to an interview if you already meet the needed years of experience and such.

Looks like it runs on the Quake engine.
i'm kinda supprised they didn't bind the portal switch to like the left and right bumpers or something, cas i know some levels would be very difficult
Wow, I'm surprised he was able to make it so you can see through the portals to the other side, wouldn't have though that would have been possible on such low end hardware.

it's hard to use the R bumper if you're already holding the stylus with your right hand (which I guess is how you aim)

Main reason I bought a Vita.
Now if only I had games...
I dont know much of anything but i wonder why he choose the DS instead of the 3DS. Im guessing you cant homebrew games on 3DS

From the same guys who made Nightmare House 2. Those guys are pretty damn good.

As far as I know he started development on this before the 3DS came to life
Or am I mistaking this with another project?

homebrew for 3DS doesn't exist yet as far as I know
is it actually for the DS or is it on the 3DS? If it's a DS then I'm gonna be so happy that I've kept mine
DS. And things like this show the true capability of the original DS. Pretty cool
When I launch it on my ds I only get white screens.
Are you running the latest software for whatever card you're using?

What kernel? It's running good on the latest Wood firmware.

It was designed as a homebrew game for the DS.

anyone has a chance to get an interview, they're looking for talent, they hired the entire team that made narbacular drop, which made portal, being hired by valve isn't about being the best of best of best at something, haven't you read their guidebook thing? it explains everything. you're most likely not get an interview not because of lack of talent but because valve has this weird way of doing things that you're (probably?) familiar about. which is why there's no HL news, most of valve is choosing not to work on half life, that's the reality.
anyways props to the guy that thing looks like fun
3ds is so far unhackable. :(
Looks better than a lot of 3D Nintendo DS games.
have you ever even seen a 3ds, this isnt even comparable to how 3ds games look.
Looks like it runs on the Quake engine.
There was even someone trying to port Half Life into the Quake engine as a mod if I recall correctly. Don't think it ever got very far. It was like the first two maps of Anomalous Materials or something minus the tram ride before it.
I'm actually pretty sure you could run GoldSrc on the DS in software mode and maybe modified models (reduced polycount). No fancy GL effects obviously.
