• Positivity is Gravatic

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is a miracle!" -Albert Einstein Positivity attracts positivity; this is a practical constant, I think. Look through history, and you'll find some of the most influential people telling you the same thing in slightly different wordings. It is only logical to presume that negativity, then, also attracts negativity. Don't think that I mean to portray this as some supernatural force, though. It makes sense on a practical and theoretical level; if you simply make negatives go away in life and appreciate positives more your experience will quickly become much more positive. This tells us to not dwell on negatives, but at the same time do not let them run their course. If you are diagnosed with cancer, be happy you had it diagnosed before you died so you can take appropriate action. If your house burns down, be glad you had insurance. Extract positivity from all situations and and focus on it. Most religions cover this same principal; in the Pauline Epistles and the Koran alike there is a quote to be found, depending on how reliable the translation is, about how your perception of happiness governs how happy you are. Vague, as most religious texts are, but you get the point. Does this make sense to any of you guys, or am I a crazy loon?
What the fuck does "Gravatic" even mean? I find your quotation of a physicist funny because experimentally the opposite is true
Gravatic (adj.): Having to do with gravity; gravity-like. That is to say, by the title, positivity has its own sort of selective gravity in that it attracts other positivity. You could say positivity has its own gravitas, as does negativity.
You sir, are a crazy loon.
I can understand what you're trying to say, but attempting to argue that 'Happy thoughts attract good things' because 'some biblical texts say so' and 'because gravity.. pulls or something' aren't compelling arguments. Not being a dick, just sayin'.
I actually imagine being positive about everything is unhealthy.
@Engandered I'm not saying that is the reason, I'm simply saying that religion and pretty smart people back me up on this. It lends credibility to my argument. The thought that thinking positively makes positive things happen to you is not really groundbreaking or anything, it's just not talked about because it's pretty... obvious. Think about it. If you dwell upon a negative feeling for too long, doesn't it make sense that you would start to feel and act negative? Should the opposite not be true of things positive? People who always think positive are obviously delusional. There is nothing wrong with making the best of a bad situation, but if you think being positive will make everything all better, you're delusional.
It's true that negitive thinking can make you mellow, but that's because of enzymes and hormone levels in your body, and how you react to a situation. Positivity hasn't been concluded as any type of 'force'. There is the world, your perception to it, and how it affects you physically and mentally. A positive action does not attract positive 'situations' like magnets, because we are all individuals, not driven by a force to meet this person or that because of their 'positive aura'. We are not dolls.
Positivity attracts positivity; this is a practical constant
No.

It probably doesn't make sense because it really is such a broad thing, but in the situation you put forth, people actually ARE driven to talk to positive people. Certainly more than they are to talk to gloomy ones. I'm explaining positivity like it's a force because it's easier than listing situations in which positivity is good. Is "Positivity makes more positivity happen" or "Being a happy person makes you less susceptible to heart disease and other medical problems along with many other advantages" more coherent?
I think he's trying to say optimism can cause happiness as much as pessimism can cause misery. That's their outlook on life, yes it does affect their mood.
I would love to see the experiment which proves [...] this wrong.
You said this:
Positivity attracts positivity; this is a practical constant, I think.
The most fundamental of physical interactions (electrostatics/magnetism) has opposites attract and like repel. If you meant something more abstract then it should have been clarified right there and proven throughout your argument, but it wasn't.
I actually imagine being positive about everything is unhealthy.
not being positive about anything is unhealthy
not being positive about anything is unhealthy
True, extremes of any kind are rarely good.
Of course it's unproven- I'm not trying to prove it, that would be a pretty lengthy task.
True, extremes of any kind are rarely good.
being positive about everything is something i feel is a good trait to have; the OP is quite correct, happiness attracts happiness thats why happy people tend to have happy friends
Positivity is a method of spaceship propulsion introduced in a science-fiction book by Isaac Asimov? What the hell does gravitic even mean outside of science fiction.
Do you know nothing of magnetism? Positive attracts negative. And there is no current link between gravity and the other fundamental forces! Whoever finds that out is going to be more famous than Einstein.
Do you know nothing of magnetism? Positive attracts negative. And there is no current link between gravity and the other fundamental forces! You may find that words can have multiple meanings!
-snip- derp bad reading
Where were you in 7th grade science :colbert:
Sounds about right to me.
Magnetism isn't gravity Where were you in 7th grade science :colbert:
I never said it was.
I'm not talking about the physical force of gravity; consult a thesaurus. You may find that words can have multiple meanings!
Because there are so many forces of gravity :3:
Just because you are having a good outlook on something doesn't make your brain Positively* Polarized... *Positively meant as the opposite of negatively, not meant to be interpreted as certainly.
Completely impartial/neutral/apathetic is the way to go. Then you can see stuff in a completely unappealing way
-snip most people would not like this statement and would start derailing-
I think he's trying to say optimism can cause happiness as much as pessimism can cause misery. That's their outlook on life, yes it does affect their mood.
. [editline]10:20PM[/editline]
If your house burns down you can't be happy cause now you are a hobo, and not everyone does have insurance, it's impossible to be happy when you are going to die and I rather die before I get diagnosed. Who in the fucking hell would be happy if they have cancer? It hurts you bad people would rather die before getting it By far the most retarded statement yet I know this isin't rantpunch but this is just fucking stupid.
Think about it and don't look past the obvious, he's thinking about the situation positively. It would be better to know that you were going to die, than to just die..
Think about it and don't look past the obvious, he's thinking about the situation positively. It would be better to know that you were going to die, than to just die..
Well I guess but still what does that part even have to do with gravity?
LOL FORGET GRAVITY For every time "Gravatic" appears in the passage or title, replace it with "able to attract itself"
