The posters, designed to highlight a drop in the price of a four-pint bottle of milk, displayed pictures of a type of cattle used exclusively for meat.
But people with a beef have taken to the social-networking site Twitter to criticise the supermarket.
A spokesman for Tesco said the adverts were being replaced.
The mistake was first spotted by farmers, who pointed out that the cows on show were a Hereford cross cow - farmed for beef production rather than milk
Farmer Richard Yates, who has a herd of 100 Friesian cows near Bridgnorth, told the Shropshire Star that Tesco was using cows that "would never have been milked in their lives".
"That shows how out of touch they are and what they think of dairy farmers."
Rather amusing that farmers are taking this as an insult, rather than what it actually is : marketing blokes not knowing the difference and likely not caring.
I read it as "Tesco uses the wrong kind of cow milk for advert" and thought they had used bull sperm.

Heheheh.

I like this as well, because of course Tescos marketing guys just hate dairy farmers with a passion.
Why does it matter, though? Few people will know the difference between meat cows and dairy cows, and people already relate cows to milk.
"I'll put the wrong type of cow on the picture, this'll show the cunts"
Oh hell like all companies doesn't do this.
We had a milk commercial in Denmark where they poured it over some strawberry.
A friend of mine who knew the guy that had produced the commercial, told me that they had used white paint instead, because it was a better white colour.

Not to mention fast food commercials where burgers have a surplus of perfectly looking ingredients that bounce deliciously on the bun in slow motion.
WHO CARES
Sorry, had to say it.
sooo
How does one spot the difference between a dairy cow and a meat cow?
They all just look like cows to me

Read the article. Specific breeds are better suited for milking rather than being used for meat and vice versa.
Spotting the difference is simply a matter of knowing what they look like and a quick google image search is all you need to know that.

A cow's a cow, your average joe really shouldn't care.
A cow's a cow, your average joe really shouldn't care.
The guy asked a question and I answered it. Besides, I just like to have a basic knowledge of exactly what it is I'm eating.
A cow's a cow, your average joe really shouldn't care.
no, they should. everyone should be an awful lot more informed about what we're eating and where it comes from. passing it off as "it's just a cow" is just ignorance.

Same with the differences between chicken for meat and chicken for eggs.
There isn't anything wrong with that ad. I start every day with a glass of meat.

Damn was hoping for a cowdemic film based on Birdemic
You can tell the difference because dairy cows have overly large udders, and beef cows have smaller udders but a more blocky/robust look to them.

And those commercials with the perfectly golden-brown glazed turkeys?
Motor oil.
Ice cream?
Mashed potatoes.
Ah, the prophesied war on dairy farmers ignites at last. Prepare for a hundred years of bovinious turmoil.

Not to mention that food stylists get very picky about having food look just so; also the stuff you see in adverts is touched up with chemicals and the like, so to speak, to make it look better for the picture, though it doesn't happen in all cases from what I know of.

They use potatoes because real ice cream would melt under studio lights.
I really doubt they give a shit. Cows = milk is pretty much the connection people make and they nailed it on the head. Unless you've got OCD or autism or something why would anybody even care enough to say anything about this, let alone think it's worthy of an article
[editline]21st March 2014[/editline]
And if any whackjob out there is pretending that cow's milk comes from happy cows out in a big open green pasture then they're probably too out of touch with reality to know the difference between two cow breeds anyway
In ice cream adverts, its usually colored mashed potatoes for hard ice cream.
if the article was about video games being mistaken instead of cows a lot more people would make a fuss on this forum i reckon

What is this then? Other than nightmare fuel :v:
When I read the title, I thought they had used a horse by mistake.
You could have shown a generic picture of a farm, just as a stock image, with sheep and people would still complain saying "OH MY FUCKING GOD IT'S NOT SHEEP MILK".
Some people just like to complain, it's all they do.

no thats their burgers
People really do have too much fucking free time, or rather the wrong type of people do!
People are really complaining about the wrong cow being used? Don't they have better problems to worry about?
