So the university of Nottingham has this youtube channel thing going on and they decided to dig into Portal 2. I thought some of you might've been interested. And the outtakes (more on physics): Check out their channel if you like more science like this. They explain all sorts of cool things.
Such a sexy accent
I like how Valve actually thought about how the portal gun works in the ads, the mini black hole energy thing in the middle actually makes sense after watching this video and thats cool, instead of being all like "It's a game, it works"
I think valve should give those guys money so they can play more portal 2 while it's not their free time.
That laptop doesn't look like it's handling the game too well.
These guys are really smart, but they don't know videogame shortcuts, such as the recoil animation :v:
But its just a game :buddy: Edit: Guess it isnt a game?
...but as soon as it becomes a reasonable size, then it can allow radiation to go through it. And once that radiation goes through it, it can create quantum fluctuations... you'll get this cascade: the radiation goes through and get's amplified [over and over], and will cause the wormhole to collapse or explode...
HOLY SHIT
It pisses me off how these scientists aren't playing Portal 2 maxed out, wide-screen resolution. But on a fucking laptop! How professional is that?

that was great, the guy was impressed at how real the game looked, amazing hahahaha it's like the first time he saw a game ever, and that game had fucking wormholes on it, he was probably like "god damn this is the best game ever"
yeah it was funny how he explained how amazing a game can look and feel as you play the game. :v: it's no wonder, the gaming entertainment industry is large with a lot money around it, probably not as much as science institutions though.
His name is Professor Moriarty.
Awesome guy. Loose understanding of animation, but what he said applies perfectly well to shit like Euphoria.
This just made me think: Portal 3 better have time travel. It would not only make sense physics-wise, but I think it would also work perfectly gameplay-wise (not to mention plot-wise). If you have portals that go backwards in time, you could do all sorts of crazy things. Like all those puzzles where "you need to press two buttons at once, then go through the door" - instead of planting two cubes on there, just stand on one for a bit, open a portal to the past, go stand on the other one for a bit, then go back again and walk through the door you're holding open.
i love scientists
I want to watch a playthough with him playing it.
I want to watch a playthough with him playing it.
it ought to be better than that bitch who couldn't make it past the third test chamber.
I don't think theres gonna be a portal 3 after you know
What part of "time travel" don't you understand? Yes, the story has, chronologically, ended, but it's possible to loop back, set right what once went wrong.
there could be some backstory, maybe show what happened at aperture before the events of the first game (you know where there are absolutely no scientists despite numerous chairs and computers) or playing through the story of one of the previous test chamber subjects (one who wrote all that crap on the walls)
Por'als

SPEHS! heh, he used the arrowkeys to move.
I love how the scientist uses the word "sciencey"
And I'm trying to go to the Uni of Nottingham. Oh it's going to be so much fun.
Do they actually play the game or do they just talk for ages. Also, he can't even run the game. Look how much he's lagging.
The opera analogy was win.
These high tech scientists, and their high tech "cello tape" keeping their cameras on tripods
These high tech scientists, and their high tech "cello tape" keeping their cameras on tripods
The filming is done by an ex BBC worker. He's not very professional, but he does deliver. He even uses a highspeed camera sometimes. They are very good at explaining.
