• 330ci or 745i? - FIRST CAR

I'm 18, barely had my license for long, can afford 8.5k car, can afford 330Ci or 745i, was wondering which would be more on insurance. Was thinking, 330ci, cheaper cuz v6? or the 745i has v8 but more safety features because it's meant to be a nice, safe luxury/family car. Which will cost me more on insurance?
Don't you have car insurance comparison websites you can look at? They are all over the place in the UK. You don't even need the registration of a car of that type for most you can just type in the details about the type of car.
Depends where you live but if you just got your license, don't drop 8k on a car. Get something nice, but not 8k nice.
No experience = high insurance.
What country are you in? That makes a world of difference. $8500 isn't a massive amount of money, but in GBP, that's quite a lot more.

DO NOT GET A 745 EVER the 2002-2006 BMW 7 series was riddled with problems and is buttfuck ugly If you want a 7, get an E38. And the 330Ci is a straight 6, not a V6. They are entirely different cars. I had a 2001 740i Sport and I loved it. I know have a 2008 750Li and I love it as well, but it is totally different. I've driven a number of 3s and they're wonderful to drive but a bit too small for me to drive every day.
Cheap ecobanger that isn't a favorite among white trash or other kinds of idiots on the road. First car is the one you'd make the most mistakes with, so it only makes sense for it to be some shitheap you really don't care about.
And both will be expensive on insurance. No way to avoid that. Just bite the bullet. The insurance on my 750 is $3500 a year, and on the 740 it was $2500. You need to do a lot of research when buying an older BMW. I looked and learned for a year before I purchased my 740, and I still got one with problems. You may be able to afford an 8.5k car, but can you afford the maintenance? Remember parts and labor for a 7 series is still for an $80,000 car even if you only paid 1/10th of that. You will learn to take care of your cars better. I did.
Yeah but getting a banger as your first car is great because you can learn to drive without having to worry about the car. [editline]28th December 2013[/editline] And then when you know how to drive properly you can get a nicer car.
Yeah I recommend spending less than $5000. Save up for a couple years and get a nicer car as everyone else is saying.
Always make sure to have 1 grand to spend on repairs on any used cars, just in case.
I disagree with this. Get a nice first car. You will learn to take care of your cars better. I did.
You =/= young drivers in general. Really, it's almost a rule of nature that your fist car is one that you're gonna fuck up. Or do you want OP to end in financial ruin?
Get a shitbox as your first car. Not only is a better investment (because you're going to crash your first car anyway), but it lets you appreciate your proceeding cars more.
Could BMW not be bothered to name their cars or something? Mercedes too... Just numbers and letters...
DO NOT GET A 745 EVER ... If you want a 7, get an E38. And the 330Ci...
Could BMW not be bothered to name their cars or something? Mercedes too... Just numbers and letters.
All the good names are already taken already by shit car models. Besides, try have a American try to say the German name of a car, sounds absolutely retarded. Try googling Hyundai Matrix for an idea of a car with the least fitting name BTW, numbers might not be creative, but it separates them from shit like Kia Cee'd. Also many American cars also have retarded over-the-top names so they're not a good example either.

find a friend of a friend with a sub $1000 car for sale.
Why does he have to get a terrible car for his first car? I don't personally think a BMW is a good first car, but it doesn't have to be some terrible little mid-90's ecobox like a chevette or cavalier. If your very first car is a shitmobile you could end up getting very bad habits when it comes to things like maintinence and watching out for scratches. If your first car is relatively nice, you'll hopefully take better care of it.
my first car was an $800 shitbox and i treated it better than most people treat their $60,000 luxury cars. If OP is a car guy he'll be one, if he's not he wont. [editline]28th December 2013[/editline] well, treated rather. Sold it a year later for a profit.

If I were you I wouldn't buy a throw away car ie a beater. You don't know, you may end up staying with that car through college. Buy a car that you would think would last you a long time and won't be a burden/uncomfortable to own/drive. Also finding the car that is right for you will take a while (took me a couple months to find the right car for me).
One of my friends have a beautiful red 330ci. 6 speed manual, awesome growl from the exhaust. Great car.
What the fuck, barely had your license for long but you are allowed to drive a V8 from 18? I got my provisional license when I was 17 and I can't drive any petrol car with forced induction or more than 6 cylinders until I'm 20, 1.5 years away. imo don't put 8k into a first car, but that doesn't mean you have to buy a shitbox. My car was 2.4k and literally the only problem with it at the time was the fuel lid door had trouble opening. It's metallic paint was (and is) still nice, the internals were all good, and it has shit like aircon and cruise control. You don't need that shitbox down the street with faded paint, body damage and an oil leak, get a nice car but don't go too overboard because you WILL eventually fuck up your first car. Always. I hit a kangaroo in my car because my awareness skills weren't very great at the time, who knows what will happen to your car.
In the US there is no restriction on engine size or anything when you get your license.
Depends where you live but if you just got your license, don't drop 8k on a car. Get something nice, but not 8k nice.
especially if it's a first car a car that nice is going to not last long as "Nice" as first car
In the US there is no restriction on engine size or anything when you get your license.
It's even more ridiculous here in Australia because you can have zero practical driving experience and drive a 315kW HSV as long as you're with someone who has their full license, but as soon as you get those 120 hours of driving experience and get your provisional license you can't even drive a shitty Holden Cruze with a turbocharged 1.4L engine.
In the US there is no restriction on engine size or anything when you get your license.
there should be a ford superduty would like, be the worst first car in the world hard as hell to drive, very high weight making it very deadly :v:
My first car was my w124 Mercedes I loved it I then bought the 740 and I loved that too Everyone in my family has had nice cars for their first car and we all have enjoyed it, and it has made us take care of cars better. The thing had a curb weight of 8,400 lbs. Talk about too heavy.
