Basically anything about drums you can post in this thread :D From how to play to full on discussions , post it all here :D I have a few questions before we start aswell. 1. Is there any good drums or drum pieces under 150-200 since im looking to buy some new equipment or maybes get a whole new kit. 2. Do you think books would help me learn or actual drum teacher/lessons ? Books seem boring but have alot of info , but lessons seem more active and easier to learn from. DISCUSS :) - ragawaga
I like drums more than any other instrument, personally i think they look cooler to play , and if you can play them right it sounds good :D couldn't tell you about prices etc. , don't know that much :(
Your going to have an awfully hard time finding a kit for under $200, maybe you'll be able to find a used one on ebay or something, and yes having a GOOD drum teacher will benefit you greatly. My most recent kit is Tama Starclassic birch/bubinga, it should have cost $3000+ but because of the smallest little scuff I got it for $1500 :D just need to upgrade my snare and cymbals and I'll be good.
In regards to your second question: Books are great. They have tons of info and ideas. It depends on the kind of book you get. Tommy Igoe released two books within the past year or two filled to the brim with different grooves.. Some of the stuff was pretty dumb though (the jazz section in his first book was a joke), but the book had a lot of good grooves and gave me some neat ideas. On top of that, it comes with a CD with over 60 tracks of rock, funk, jazz, and world music. The thing about books is that if you don't know how to apply it, you may as well throw the book away. That's why I think lessons are much better if you have a good teacher.Besides, they'll probably be giving you tons of books anyways.
The bare minimum of a kit that you should get is a ludwig accent, anything cheaper than this 500$ investment is going to be horrible. Plus assuming your going to be playing in a basement or garage, the 20 inch bass tom and 10 and 12 inch toms will be a little quieter than a regular kit.
Yeah, you want to spend at least 700$ on a kit. I doubt you could get anything for under 200$. And yes, you're going to want a teacher, especially when you're beginning.

Except for the bass drum pedal it's absolute shit, replace it quick.
With the kit i have now is a Yamaha stage custom, birch i believe, but it is also mixed with other woods (it was made before they decided to make the whole line just birch) sizes are mounted toms 12, and 13. 16 floor tom. 22 bass. and a 14in steel snare. all that plus cymbals and a live mic with a cable. All for 500 bucks! i bought it from a dean at school. Its a hell of alot better than my first kit, it was a first act haha
You hit them and they make sounds that become music when hit in rythm. /input

I play drums :D
As do I. I play a pearl kit with Sabian and Zildjian cymbals. I spend 4 hours a day practicing.
I fucking love drumming. I Youtube all my drum covers. OP you won't get a good kit, even for a beginner under 200 pounds I'm afraid. I'm mainly self-taught but lessons helped me correct some bad habits that would've been incredibly hard to fix later down the line.
Look for second hand drums, some look tatty but still have a great sound. Especially with the snare drum, i got one thats about 25 or something years old for £20, but it sounds better than many more expensive ones you get brand new.
Ok guys thanks for you answers :D I will probablys get a kit for 500-700, if not im looking for some stagg and zidijan pieces. Are they any good ?
drums are a good instrument to play, especially if you wanna create badass beats. i find it kinda hard to be a drummer though since im already a guitarist :saddowns:

The drummer for my band plays drums... he doesnt practice... he needs to... if you are the drummer for my band that plays drums and doesnt practice and you see this... PRACTICE!!!
I got my drum set for 160€. It's pretty shit, but It's ok for a beginner. I'm going to buy a new set sometime, but first I need to get lessons. :P

I play guitar , but i would so love to have drums just to mess about on.
Well , i prefer drums more than guitar. Just my opinion :D
Many people have that same opinion.
I have a Typhoon electronic set. Too lazy to check the model though. I got it for only a couple hundred bucks, so I guess it's a good deal.
Drums are like...I don't know. But they're bad on their own, but can make something awesome.
Drums ftw! Been playing for 7-8 years now and still discovering new stuff. A good drumteacher will make you alot better, and they will suggest drum-books for you to use, so go with the drum-teacher. You should also save up to a better drumkit. Look on the net for reviews and try every set you want to buy, so that It will fit perfectly to you, and make you play better. If you have any questions on how to set up drums or any drum technique, just ask me.
