For the last two years the Sauber F1 Team mechanics have been using their downtime to slice a Formula One racing car lengthwise down the middle with the precision of true craftsmen. Chief Designer Matt Morris quite literally gets underneath the skin of the F1 car, pointing out where and how the individual components are located within the chassis. Everything is packed in pretty tightly. Sergio Pérez is also on hand to demonstrate the driver's seating position.
Pretty awesome if you ask me. Of course the other cars will look different inside, but to see what it looks like is brilliant.

That is fuckin' cool, but common man let's see some closeups of the engine and gearbox too!
Cool, but they forgot to cut the driver in half.
sitting that close to the fuel tank would scare the fuck out of me
At first I thought this is a working F1 car that can be split in half and put back together.

The fuel tank is the least of your worries, you are zooming around at 180+mph and the brakes get rather hot, you are about 2cm from the tarmac and one wrong move could send you into a wall.

Kevlar + metal padding, you'd be alright. You should be more fearful of your street car's fuel tank more than anything.
Interesting, I never knew how contorted the driver would have to be sitting inside the car. Also interesting to note the small steering column
