i remember seeing an interview with the creator of The Newsroom and the idea of the show (realistic look at american politics and reporting) was p interesting, i'm surprised they came on so strong
So first he's ranting about how nothing is as perfect as people describe it... then he proceeds to create the illusion it was exactly like that in the past. Comedian, right?
America's Response: "WE'RE 'MERICA, DAMMIT! WE'RE BETTER THAN ANYONE!"

Comedian, right?
No he's not, first he's talking about how America doesn't do really anything better than other countries and then goes on to say how in the past they were the one leading stuff in technology and accomplishments and all that.

man this guy is so right my life is awful here in america no but seriously this is pretty...great actually, the acting, the feeling of pure sincere emotion in his voice...amazing.
What show is this from?
new HBO series The Newsroom
I'm feeling touched by that. I think american citizens are slowly realizing that this country is fucked up really bad and it's getting worse day by day.
Amazing Show, It's on HBO and is on episode 3, It's really, really informative.
America has stunted itself. It might not be the worst, but they're not even trying anymore and have become comfortable with that.
That was just perfect. Absolutely spot on. 10/10 writing, and acting.
America has stunted itself. It might not be the worst, but they're not even trying anymore and have become comfortable with that.
Possible scenario. Problem is that still many american citizens live in a constant state of isolation in terms of looking at the rest of the world. If you have nothing to compare, if the media lies to you and suggests that the country is so great, why the fuck should the average highschool student think otherwise? It's just pure blank nescience and ignorance.
So first he's ranting about how nothing is as perfect as people describe it... then he proceeds to create the illusion it was exactly like that in the past. holy shit i don't know about the greatest country, but fucking hell is it the most dramatic country
I don't want to live on this piece of land people call a country anymore. Too much drama, fat people and little kids doing drugs.
He didn't say it was perfect, he said it was better in the past
unless you're black or female of course
No country has ever been or will ever be the greatest country in the world.
I've been telling Facepunch to watch this show for 2 weeks! Come join me now! I wish our media was like how Will McAvoy does his show :( Edit: I just noticed, this video is edited to cut out about 90 seconds of Will McAvoy coming up with some half-assed reason why America is #1 because he cares to much about looking good and not telling people what he really thinks. He finally loses it and goes into this rant. This idea of saying the truth and facts and not what is popular is the main theme of the show.
I don't want to live on this piece of land people call a country anymore. Too much drama, fat people and little kids doing drugs.
Are you implying that doesn't happen in other countries?
So first he's ranting about how nothing is as perfect as people describe it... then he proceeds to create the illusion it was exactly like that in the past. Comedian, right?
Not exactly. It isn't as if America led every category ever back in the past, but they did lead in quite a few. Examples: Highest HDI in 1975: http://www.photius.com/rankings/human_developement_index_1975-2005.html (Note: This graph ranks them on the combined score from 1975 to current - however in 1975 specifically the U.S. lead by 0.016). Highest GDP per capita in 1950: http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/eco_gdp_per_cap_in_195-economy-gdp-per-capita-1950 Lead the world economy and education system through the 50's and 60's: http://www.ihr.org/other/nov10weber.html http://www.neha.org/pdf/JEH/columns/JEH3.11_MgED_World_Rankings_of_the_U.S_Education_NEHA.pdf et cetera. Now however, as was pointed out in the video, we don't lead in any of those areas any longer.
Are you implying that doesn't happen in other countries?
Not as much as America. Asking a question like this is like saying every country is the same. Too many fat people here There's a couple fat people here too! Your country is no better!
Are you implying that doesn't happen in other countries?
no but it does happen disproportionately here in the united states
no but it does happen disproportionately here in the united states
Ah, well that's unfortunate. I wonder why, I suppose its deeply related to our society, something about it causes children to want to do drugs and other stupid shit, but why, and what? And what do other countries have that we don't?

I saw the advert for it over here in the UK, I think I should watch it.
an absence of institutionalized racism
HA. The rest I can agree with.
