Wow, that is actually really cool, i thought it was just meant for large explosions and crap
Ow yeah
in before: professional CGI discussions
10 years from now these will be the graphics in games. Kids at that time will look back at Metro 2033 and be like "you thot th0se grafics were good? trloloollol"
That's either an assload of raytracing or only the "falling and shit exploding" is CGI.
Or someone had really deep pockets and could afford to raytrace it all.

Raytracing isn't difficult to manage, my old computer from 2003 could run raytracing on 3DSMax without a hitch, it just took forever to do anything.

yeah that's why you have render farms

I don't think Metro 2033 will ever look too dated. At least to the point where it's painful to play, like PS1 games are today.
Kind of weird that such amazing CGI is for a kitchen ad.
Another fun fact, this is the same guy who did The Third & The Seventh.
Another one? Atleast half of the work is post processing.

N64 games are pretty unplayable now. I just can't stand their lack of edge smoothing.
damn, those lemons
Damn, just imagine trying to render that real-time.
Hold on, you're telling me that those fruits were cgi? I'm calling bullshit, that stuff looked real!? How come we don't get this in movies, or better yet, video games?
To me it looked unrealistic, but not in a bad way at all.
Maybe it's because there are no video artifacts or anything like that. It's all seems too perfect. No dust or dirt, 100% clean and straight tables and so on. Perfect reflectivity.
This is nothing compaired to "The 2nd and the 7th".
When I opened up wimp I thought that video would be that.
It's very nice though, hard to believe we can do this.

Then lets hope women appreciate it.

So I guess GL Quake is unplayable too then?
Anyways, this is really awesome. I wouldn't have known had you told me. I still don't believe.
Didn't we think that games don't need to look better then they did back in the n64 days?
I remember I couldn't imagine games looking like they do today back then.
I was somewhat OK with this (even though I posted it first), until I saw you posted it as a wimp.com link. Grr. Alex Roman needs credit for this, here's the Vimeo link.

Cause half the effects studios don't know wtf they're doing and the budgets and time schedules don't allow for such attention to detail.

Oh this is the same guy who did the 3rd and the 7th, he's awesome!
Won't be all that long until this is the real-time rendering standard.
Uh, yeah it'll be pretty damn long.
And here's the YouTube link. Just in case anyone was curious.

Haha! Are you joking? With current trends, transistor counts are doubling with almost every new generation of CPU releases.

read: Your pocket watch will be rendering hour-long CGI shits in seconds in about twelve years
next i want video games rendered like this.

Don't get me wrong, I love the gameplay of just about every N64 game I have, but I've become quite a graphics whore. I hate it. I love Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, but I just can't stand old graphics. Strangely I'm okay with NES games.
Alex Roman always delivers.
I honestly can't wait for games to have this as standard real-time graphics on low, and it running smoothly. Would be so awesome.
I give it 10 years till it happens, honestly.
Uh, yeah it'll be pretty damn long.
I say 5 to 10 years.
And before you rate me Optimistic, think about this.
Diablo II was made in 2000.
