Chart topping singer Madonna has revealed she was held up at knife point and raped after moving to New York City.
In a first-person essay penned for Harper's Bazaar magazine, the pop star spoke of her traumatic ordeal when she had moved to New York from Michigan, aged 20.
“New York wasn't everything I thought it would be. It did not welcome me with open arms”, she wrote.
“The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back, and had my apartment broken into three times. I don't know why; I had nothing of value after they took my radio the first time.”
damn dude, that sucks, she starred in some of my favorite movies like point break and the sum of all fears
New York's a big place. It has a good number of bad places in it. She was unfortunate enough to move to one of them, I suppose.
realtalk though that sucks

page one and already blaming the victim? nice.
page one and already blaming the victim? nice.
how is that victim blaming in the slightest
page one and already blaming the victim? nice.
Egh. If you said "that's what happens when you live in a bad area" or something maybe, but it sounds like you're trying to start an argument.

Someone starting an argument in SH? What a world we live in..

did you read the quoted post? that's exactly what it says, and it is blaming the victim. nobody should expect to be raped, especially with a knife to their throat.
page one and already blaming the victim? nice.
Victim blaming would be saying that it's her fault she didn't research "safe" areas of NYC or something like that. All I got from what he said is that she unintentionally moved to a more crime-prone location (judging by the amount of break-ins anyway), not that it's her fault those things happened to her.

thats stupid, he just stated that it was unfortunate that she seemed to move into a bad area.
that's not blaming the victim, just stating that things like that can happen in certain places.
way different than being like "shes so stupid thats what she gets for moving into a place like that!!! she shouldve expected it!!!!"
supposedly it was Sean Penn who raped her after he beat her with a baseball bat because she wouldnt do some sex act
In order to pursue a career as a professional dancer, she paid her rent by posing as nude for art classes, where she found herself "staring at people staring at me naked. Daring them to think of me as anything but a form they were trying to capture with their pens and charcoal."
I find this surprising. After such a traumatic experience I can't begin to conceive why she would want to do something like this.
Physical assault against Madonna
Penn's marriage to pop singer Madonna was known for its tumultuous and toxic qualities. Penn reportedly abused her with his drinking and mood-swings[46] and struck Madonna in the head with a baseball bat during a heated dispute.[47]
I don't think this is related?
So wait this is the first time she revealed this? I thought I had heard about this before.

In the grim darkness of the now-present, there is only Facepunch's relentless game of "My Voice's Louder than Your Voice."

Let me explain to you a theory of crime. Its called the Lifestyle Theory:
People who live in bad areas are at a higher risk to become a victim when compared to someone who lives in a nice place.
People who go out are at a higher risk to become a victim when compared to someone who stays in for the night.
No one said it was her fault for being raped. She was already at a higher risk to become a victim than others.
