That's probably one of the easiest German words to pronounce, it's nothing like Knödel or Frühling with sounds that just don't exist in English (Or long like Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft). But w/e
Kursgesagede? Those guys aren't even trying what the hell
Aw I actually liked the name
Kursgesagede? Those guys aren't even trying what the hell
My thoughts exactly
I am finding it kinda hard to be able to pronounce it that incorrectly.. it really isn't that hard. Sure you might not get it 100% correctly but what does a letter or two wrong mean anyway
Kurzgesagt sounded better imo
I'm having a hard time relating to people who have that hard of a time pronouncing the word. German can be an unwieldy language, sure, but it's nothing some phonics can't solve. Even if you try saying it with an American accent (Kers-ge-zackt) it'll turn out alright, I suppose... Did those people even try? :vs:
In a nutshell is a lot less noteworthy and memorable than Kurzgesagt. Like, loads of people make videos describing something "in a nutshell."
Really bad call, IMO. If you're not going to call it Kurzgesagt, at least call it something unique.

It was a really neat name.
People will still call it Kurzgesagt.
I don't think the name change really matters.
I am the 3% :toot:
It was a unique name, now it's a name any youtube channel would have.
Honestly this is just the a reflection of the fact that English is slowly killing off other languages. When the majority of your viewers don't understand your name, it might seem like a good idea to change it. Kinda sad that they changed it, though, it was more unique.

It's really just more of a popularity thing like they said.
"Hey there's this awesome channel and they have great videos."
"Oh, what's it called?"
"Uhh...Kusgesgat, Kurzgagt, Kurzgesgat, something like that."
"Oh uh well can you spell it for me?"
"...no."

True but they do now have nearly a million subscribers and a large portion of their videos have at least a million views. They're probably big enough now that they can claim the phrase on youtube and it will become instantly associated with them.

same but now it's easier to tell friends about

They said they're calling the video series In A Nutshell, they are still calling themselves (team not the channel) Kurzgesagt (hence presented by Kurzgesagt). Makes sense to me.

That's what I said though? Most people talk English so they streamline it for that language - makes sense.

come on we're neighbours to germany thats cheating
Schade. Kurzgesagt ist ein besserer Name.
I guess I'm also one of the few native English speakers who never had a problem pronouncing it correctly.
this thread is all the 3%
i always pronounced it
"kur ja sajit"

Not quite comparable though, it's just that their audience is primarily English speakers. It's not like Germans are looking at the name and going "uh.... kursgesagged? Fuck I forgot German cause I speak English so much". It's more like if it was a newspaper that was miraculously most popular in countries like the UK and USA, and read by fellow Europeans using English as a lingua franca. And thus they change the name. Bridge languages that people learn as a second language to communicate with each-other and to reach a bigger audience isn't new. Urdu in Pakistan and Indonesian in Indonesia do the same, and historically things like Latin and French did that as well.
That 3% argument is dumb.. A vast majority of people speaking any other european language should have no problem "pronouncing" kurzgesagt. Quotation marks because it can be correctly pronounced pretty much exactly how it's written. Unlike 'in a nutshell', which isn't pronounced the way it's written at all.
This may be slightly biased since I speak Finnish, which is extremely phonetic.
Point here is that you don't have to speak german to pronounce it correctly.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. The name isn't what's important, it's the quality of the channel. That, plus its unique way of conveying content (i.e. flat coloured ducks) makes it hard to be confused with something else.
People in this thread are slightly overreacting.

You know what, normally, I like German.
But anytime I see a massive german word, I'm just reminded of the Battletech colony that had Dunklewälderdunklerflüssenschattenwelt as the colony name. And then renamed themselves to Bob.
