• U.S. Freedoms and limitations on them? Help me with a poll!
    47 replies, posted
I'm currently doing a poll on the U.S.'s freedoms on the limitations put on them focusing on some aspects of gay rights, gun control, and tattoos/piercings in the workplace. This includes some basic questions on gun control, public displays of affection from gays vs staight, and tattoos/piercings in a professional workplace. Honestly I hate to be that guy asking facepunch for help with homework, but I need to poll at least 8 people, and it would mean the world to me if some of you could answer all 20 questions from these two polls. If you kindly help me, PLEASE ANSWER BOTH POLLS http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BHSM8QY http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/B6PKMJF For anyone who took the poll, is there anything I could have improved on in terms of questions? Any subjects I should have touched on specifically regarding current issues?
*7. Who should be able to regulate gun ownership? Central Government State Government
There's no neither option?
Third question on first poll isn't accurate for people who identify as leftist, libertarian, or other. There should be an other option. I just selected "None".
There's no neither option?
Also this.
There's no neither option?
Sorry about having no neither option. My group came to a conclusion that having neither would be a pipe dream. So if it helps think of it as "Who would you rather..." instead of "Who should..."
Sorry about having no neither option. My group came to a conclusion that having neither would be a pipe dream. So if it helps think of it as "Who would you rather..." instead of "Who should..."
Well, if you're trying to get a real measure of the public opinion, then it doesn't matter if you consider it a pipe dream. And to be fair, no regulations on guns is not an opinion that is uncommon.
This question:
*5. What do you use [your gun] for? Hunting Home Protection Don’t own a gun
Could use a "both" (Hunting and protection) option
Could use a "both" (Hunting and protection) option
Shit, never thought about that :v: [editline]27th March 2013[/editline] Also, thanks a bunch for those of you who answered both polls.
The range of options given for these questions is extremely limited and doesn't cover nearly as broad of a spectrum as they should. In fact the entire structure of both polls seems to be leading the person answering the questions towards certain ends and seem to be poorly thought out in general. You won't get meaningful data from this, i'm not sure what you're expecting. I suggest you scrap both and converse with your group to further flesh out the questionnaire.
The answers for these questions are far too basic. You really need to get a better set of answers for the poll, especially the ones concerning gun control and political views.

But fortunately, all our teacher cared about was getting people's opinions, and knows nothing of statistics or how skewed our questions and answers could be.
One of the questions in the second survey asks if gun buyers should take a physiological test to be permitted to purchase. I think it would make more sense to ask if gun buyers should take a psychological test.
Well then it's up to you to carry your group's weight yourself. If you don't care enough to do that I don't see why we should care enough to help you.

i felt bad for answering that i would feel uncomfortable if my child's teacher had a tattoo but it's true, i'm not quite sure why, though i dont think employment should be restricted on the basis of tattoos. oh well, i guess i'm an asshole.

Not just a name on his bicep or anything, but a full blown sleeve on one of his arms. You would have thought he was a skinhead if he wasn't a teacher. He always wore long-sleeves so you rarely saw them but every now and again we'd see him wearing short sleeves during festivals and sport events. He was the nicest teacher I've ever had in my school experience, and I found out later in highschool that he was gay as well. He was also a pretty kick ass break dancer. Soccer moms worst nightmare, and he never lost his job for it.
To be honest this is my first time doing a poll, so I never really contributed much to the creation of the actual questions + responses, but I pulled my group together to come up with the current 20. Scrapping the current questions is definitely a good idea, but because of time constraints I have to work with what I have now. Any specific suggestions to help clarify the responses or questions?
Tattoos generally make people look bad, especially if they aren't. Weird jedi-mindmeld I guess.
Generally in polls, the more answers available, the better. Your questions are decent enough, it's the available answers that are lacking substance.
Generally in polls, the more answers available, the better. Specifically that political stance one.
;40052237']no regulations on guns is not an opinion that is uncommon.
Doesn't mean it's not a bad one

You probably are just an ass hole, sorry.
I answered your polls. My answer's are probably pretty standard but I was unable to answer a few. For political stances more detail would have been more beneficial. Conservative/Liberal or moderate is a bit general.
It was instructed that our answers be as specific as possible or as basic as possible so that answers have no loose ends, but I guess we ended up doing worse when we revised some of our answers. Specifically that political stance one.
What answers you do have are specific, but you simply don't have enough. It's like asking, "What's your favorite color?" then listing the only options as red or blue, when there are a dozen other options that can be added. Your answers aren't vague, there just isn't enough to cover all the possible answers and views people may have to each question.
Politics isn't linear, it isn't even 2 dimension (though it's massively better than 1D). You need many more options
You should have added an option that was along the lines of "do you care about Gay Marriage", because I felt like I was being really led into giving an answer that would label me as something I'm not on the issue.
Well then it's up to you to carry your group's weight yourself. If you don't care enough to do that I don't see why we should care enough to help you.
Get off your high horse, don't do the survey if it bothers you. He didn't post a survey about what you thought of his survey.
Get off your high horse, don't do the survey if it bothers you. He didn't post a survey about what you thought of his survey.
We're actually trying to help him because his survey's answer set isn't expansive enough to get a proper set of statistics. The answers are over simplified and don't give him a proper set of data to work with.
Get off your high horse, don't do the survey if it bothers you. He didn't post a survey about what you thought of his survey.
He asked for criticism. So yes, he basically did.

I voted no on that. It's not that I don't really care about homosexuals and their rights, it's just that it's not a very big issue to me as many other things. I'm sure it's true for others and the opposite for others. Doesn't mean we don't care, just that it's not as important. The question could better be asked as, "On a scale of 1-10, 1 being very unimportant, 10 being very important; how important is gay marriage to you?" Or a scale of 1-5 to make it easier.
