Humor gets your mind off the grim aspect of the explosion. Laughter is the best medicine for this kinda stuff.
Okay you tell that to the people who lost loved ones. "Haha just laugh it off man"
My cousin was the co-pilot of Flight 11, I've heard dozens of people joke about 9/11. Hundreds if you count the internet. It doesn't anger me anymore, it's just a way to cope with the tragedy.
As an ethnic Chinese myself I must admit this audio swap still did give me quite the chuckle.

This is awful logic.
"I find this tragedy funny, thus its ok for me to make fun of it on the internet and not face repercussion because it's "coping" "

I don't find the tragedy itself funny, you're acting like I posted a video of burnt corpses set to the tune of Yakkity Sax. I'm not directly making fun of the victims either, it's just a simple voice-over from a different video.

I don't understand the difference. There is bullshit claims of "shock humor" value, which is just a shorter version of saying "I'm not laughing at what happened, I'm just laughing because it's so horrible" yet, the content is still a tragic event + a comedic effect, which people laugh at because of the TRAGIC EVENT
How long do we have to wait before an event is deemed socially acceptable enough to be regarded as funny?
Anything but the day after
so tomorrow? sweet

Thanks, Joke Pope.
Honestly it wasn't even a funny joke tho so idk why you'd laugh

Like its shitty shock humor with no punchline
Humor is subjective. Offensiveness is subjective.
looks like mr moral man is paying us a visit

This guy is mentally ill, he doesn't even give a shit that massive explosions occured just outside his window...
[editline]14th August 2015[/editline]

None of us here lost loved ones so I'm going to make a joke out of it.

If you mean in the original audio, you're making it insanely obvious that you have no idea how automatic trauma coping mechanisms work.

Making jokes about a tragic event at the expense of those involved just because you personally aren't affected by it kinda makes you an asshole.
there's never "too soon"

Did this thread really derail into a "lessons in humanity" thread? I'm here having a laugh, only to be ruined later by the "No Fun Allowed" Police.
Jesus fucking christ.

Assume one of your parents has now died, or maybe your best friend. I make a cheap joke about it.
Is that okay with you?

Are you seriously comparing this to a direct personal attack? Like the person who made this video had it out for those involved with the only intent being to harm them emotionally? Get over yourself.
This really seems like a case of people being offended on the behalf of others, like the people that suffered from the explosion really give a damn about some random YouTube dub because that is what's going to ruin their day. This thread went to shit so fast. :v:

"-STOP LAUGHING AT THINGS I DON'T LIKE HURR DURR!!!", that's how you sound like.
Neither you or I should have to feel offended on behalf of people more than capable to express their own indignation over something. Furthermore, this doesn't mean I can't empathize with the victims, or the family of the victims, which you quickly (and wrongly) assumed.

This didn't affect you, or I, in any way, shape or form. Laughter, as you may or may not know, is subjective - and believe it or not, a powerful coping mechanism (click, click and click). So in your attempt to be overly empathetic on behalf of someone, you dismissed a perfectly valid argument for why it's funny for some, while labelling us as heartless bastards when in reality, you two talk about a subject you know very little about.
So pretty please, with sugar on top, next time, don't ruin it for everyone else because *you* are uncapable of finding humor in something, out of some hyperbolized moral "burden of obligation" value.

Hey, I can make jokes about his dead relatives/friends and still feel it's a tragedy that they're dead.
That doesn't make the joke okay, though. It doesn't mean that he should have to just accept hearing me joking about someone he loved and cared about dying.
Really, it's an asshole-ish thing to do.

Laughter as a coping mechanism is only applicable when the people involved are okay with it. You don't make a joke about someones tragedy without their consent that it's fine to do so. The people in the original audio are not laughing because they're having fun, it's an automatic response to trauma. They're nervous and frightened.
What you're doing with this video is nullify their fear and making a joke out of it for some cheap laughs on their behalf and all of those who are injured and killed, and it's something you'd expect of an emotionless asshole.
[editline]14th August 2015[/editline]
Also hey, I can find humor in sick jokes. Make a joke about rape and I'll giggle if it's done right. George Carlin did this and I found it absolutely hilarious.
But it comes down to context and timing, of which this video had none. It's therefor inappropriate and downright insulting to the people involved, especially this soon after it's happened.
(User was banned for this post ("threadshitting" - Orkel))
I don't understand how the passage of time effects these kinds of jokes. It's not like after a few days, months, years, etc. the people suddenly aren't dead anymore and or the families have completely recovered.
If you're reading this, it's probably your right to be offended but at least be consistent. I've seen countless 9/11 humor be disregarded in this section.
Fireworks are illegal in Ireland, so you have to smuggle them across the border from Norn Iron. So we don't get much firework displays.
Is it so hard to understand that humor is never only positive? People still think it's awful what happened, only a microscopic fraction laughs and think it is not horrible.
People actually find this funny?
I'm not about to say something can't be joked about, but acting like people who don't find it funny to laugh over a horrible tragedy are 'moral police ugh no fun allowed' is completely fucking stupid. It's cheap, shitty shock humor made the day after a horrible tragedy, by some guy who I reckon is an absolute dickhead. Are you surprised that some people reacted with "That's awful"? Of course they rightfully did. That's literally what this video was made for.
Where do we draw the line on when it's ok to joke about something? I never said there needed to be one. You could joke about this now. I'm sure there are people who are there and getting by with some grim humor. It's a coping mechanism, yeah. I don't think any of you need coping. It's a really shitty, really cheap joke.
[editline]e[/editline]
And yeah, I don't like the 9/11 meme either. I think I made like 1 9/11 joke in the past, and I regret it. It's really cheap, easy, and shitty, and it forces you to watch footage of over a thousand people dying. Haha!
