About a dozen protesters — most carrying long guns, some masked and one with his mother — lined up outside an Irving mosque on Saturday. They had come from as far away as Hunt County to the green-domed complex. To “Stop the Islamization of America,” as the mother’s hand-drawn sign urged.
A pickup tooted on its way down Esters Road, not the first or last driver to endorse the message. Right behind the truck, a sedan pulled out of the Islamic Center of Irving lot, where afternoon prayers had just finished, and blasted Arabic music as it passed.
Two men on the sidewalk mocked the song, distorting foreign lyrics into gibberish as the car sped away. Then they huddled in the cold around their cigarettes, guns and flags, waiting for another passer-by to pay attention. It was a strange protest, held at a strange time in a suburb strangely relevant to America’s brand of anti-Islamic politics.
“We tried to talk to the mosque before we did this, but they wouldn’t return our messages,” said David Wright, dressed in black all the way from his backwards baseball cap to the barrel of his tactical shotgun. “So here we are.”
Wright said he organized the rally in the wake of an Islamic terrorist group’s massacre of Parisian civilians this month. Like millions of Americans, he wants to block Syrian refugees from U.S. shores, lest they replicate the attack here.
But like a fraction of those millions, he was convinced that Irving’s mosque had established the country’s first Islamic court earlier in the year—a false rumor that started online but grew in popularity after Mayor Beth Van Duyne made it the focus of speeches to Tea Party groups.
“They shut the illegal court down,” Wright said, incorrectly. “And then, they threatened to kill the mayor.”
Thus, the guns. A protester with a bandana over his face showed off his AR-15 to traffic. A 20-year-old who wants to join the Army and ban Islam in United States carried a Remington hunting rifle while his mother held the sign.
Literally how to be retarded
That kind of intimidation agaisnt innocent people should be illegal
These people are an infuriating kind of stupid
Typical, and yes I will assume Christians, not understanding that freedom of religion applies to everyone, not just them.
Dumb rednecks is a better generalization I guess.
Someone went there with their mum..?
She's probably there to make sure he gets home by bedtime. :pudge:
Literally giving ISIS exactly what they want on a silver platter.
Thank fucking god it's almost impossible for people to get their hands on guns here. Every time an anti-Islam protest pops ups, a counter-protest forms (initially with good intentions) which is eventually hijacked by anarchists and rent-a-mob socialists, who usually end up clashing with the police. Would not be very good if the bogans in the anti-Islam camp had their hands on guns and felt threatened by the other side.
It's shameful that people seldom use their brains. And it is most unfortunate that they decide to bring guns in front of a mosque. I mean, if you have the privilege of owning guns, why must you bring it in front of a building that is supposed to promote peace? If they want to put their gun-owning rights to good use, they should ship themselves to DAESH and pacify those extremist assholes.

But, he concluded, “This stuff is among us. People are blind if they don’t think it is.”
How is this horseshit any different to the actions of the Ku Klux Klan? This is a blatant attempt to induce paranoia and intimidation and I fucking swear these hypocritical shitsmears, who are a literal embodiment of the 'Murica stereotype, would scream bloody murder if the same was done to them.

I mean, shit - what's the fucking difference? They're both endorsing a thinly veiled hatred, often hiding behind masks and monikers, using their freedom of speech to intimidate.
Do these people even read the constitution? The same constitution these fucknuts claim they'd spill blood for in order to defend?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
And that's not to mention the numerous inconsistencies and errors in their so-called 'facts'. None of the terrorists behind the Paris were refugees, they were in fact European nationals and they fail to understand that ISIS has killed more Muslims than they have Westerners on a ratio of what I'd imagine to be about 1000:1.
People who intentionally use weapons at protests to instill fear or threaten those they're protesting should have them confiscated. They clearly show a lack of respect for the weapons they're wielding so carelessly.
Fuck these retards, guns are NOT tools for peaceful protest, if violence broke out it would entirely be their fault. Practically begging to be shot by a trigger happy police officer.
Don't forget that they think they need guns because "all muslims are terrorists and may attempt to suicide bomb us in retaliation.
Armed protestors isn't a protest anymore it's an angry mob
I'm a gun nut, I fucking love guns. Protests are the last place I would ever take a gun. For one you invalidate your whole fucking cause; the other, police love to beat up protesters, and having a gun with you is a sure fire way to get shot. The only reason they haven't been shot yet is because it's Texas police officers and it's a mosque. Anywhere else with any other group and it'd be a fucking shootout.

They have the RIGHT to own, and carry guns. This is America, and the state of Texas. Of course, the Muslims also have the right to freely practice their religion, but good luck getting Christians to understand.
The right to carry should never be abused like this...

I also wanted to emphasise that this is a disaster just waiting to happen.
how long till some nutcases decide to shoot up a mosque or something.
if we ban islam can we ban all other religions too?
(not that im for banning religions but yeah you get the point)

Yeah this is so fucking American
Is this not essentially terrorism? I mean they're enforcing their personal beliefs through the threat of violence.
Off to gitmo with you fucks.
Shameful and embarrassing. This kid has more humanity than these adults.

Bunch of terrorists.
Wow, religious tests and religious persecution.
Usually its the right wing standing up for that... well for Christians at least and usually to force you to follow their faith.
I never knew /pol/ would spread this far
Maybe its better that refugees aren't allowed into Texas. For their safety.

Turns out the Members of the Mosque then donated an ipad to the kid for his generosity. (What he was originally saving up for)
Congratulations protesters. You're now terrorists.
I am far more scared of these people than a the Syrian refugees they don't want to come in. Can we trade?
A 20-year-old who wants to join the Army and ban Islam in United States carried a Remington hunting rifle while his mother held the sign.
This guy would be a fucking disgrace in the military. We have ill need for narrow minded fucks like this.
That kind of intimidation agaisnt innocent people should be illegal
These people are an infuriating kind of stupid
Well the protesters made it pretty clear that they're armed for protection from, I'm assuming, roaming bands of ISIS supporters. Ignoring the absolute stupidity of that fear I don't think being armed is necessarily intimidation, but the moment they actively threaten anyone it's going to be that much more serious. This is Texas so I'm not entirely sure if it still applies, but usually if you commit any crime while armed it drastically increases the criminal penalty. What could normally be a misdemeanor could suddenly be a felony, and while I support the people's right to be armed and their right to protest (and by extension to do both at the same time even if I think it's fucking retarded) I really don't want to see anti-American bullshit sneak in though people's baseless fears.
And really calling for a "ban on Islam" is pretty much as anti-American as you can get.
I am far more scared of these people than a the Syrian refugees they don't want to come in. Can we trade?
they should go to syria and fight isis since they want to protect our country so much :)
