I find this highly relatable.
anyone that self diagnoses anything is an attention whore and should be treated as such
I was diagnosed through tests on the Internet to find out if I have ADHD. I am positive. As well as that, I also have Herpes and am apparently dying from cancer.
Those comments. People are seriously freaking out because they share 'symptoms'.
Also, his comment about people who use it as an excuse at the beginning, ADHD can be extremely difficult to cope with (I'm talking about actual diagnosed ADHD - not people who tap their foot and call it ADHD) and spreading bullshit like this just causes misunderstanding and generally decreases respect from people who see it and go "I used to do that but then ... now I'm good so deal with it", further ostracising them when they start slipping because people refuse to acknowledge their issues and help.
It's as if some people don't get that theirs having a short attention span or struggling to focus and a serious inability to properly focus and pay attention - no matter how hard you try. Or that being an unorganised/late person isn't the same as struggling to maintain a sense of time. Or that being energetic isn't the same as hyperactivity in ADHD-sense. I mean, these people literally don't have control. Most try and with huge effort and training they learn to cope or get around it but it's not like just your everyday person who puts more effort or focus into his flaws and relatively quickly starts to improve. It's a struggle. A lack of control.
If you ever start running across a road because a car is coming, then quickly stop because a shiny speck of metal or glass caught your eye and proceed to pick it up, you may have ADHD.
Or as that friend put it, ADOS. Attention Defi-Oooh Shiny!

I had a sore toe so I googled it once.
Turned out I had arthiritis, but it only lasted a few hours and then the pain went away.
I fucking survived arthiritis.

reminds me of the time I had cancer for a day, too.

That's nothing, man. Everyday I die for at least 8 hours.
Well, this recieved a lot of negativity... I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 6. Not trying to make it up because this video showed me... I saw this and was like "Hey, some of that stuff is me." And I found it funny because it was relatable to my lifestyle. Not trying to say "OMG THIS VIDEO SAYS I HAVE ADHD SO I HAVE ADHD!!!" No. Not saying that at all. Now ADHD shouldn't be an excuse to something that you did was dumb (I guess an example is this video seeing how many dumb ratings it got). All I saw was that the things he relates to relates to me, and since I seriously have ADHD, I found it funny. Is it not funny when something is relateable?
And yeah, it is sometimes hard to control, but I never use it as an excuse. Sometimes I benefit from ADHD. It makes me a talker.
Yeah, that's a bunch of bullshit.
I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child by a psychiatrist. I haven't seen anyone about it since and I've been unmedicated for several years now, but I can tell you that when I was confirmed to have had it, it was extremely difficult to pay attention to anything, even when I wanted to. Hell, I caught myself spacing out from time to time while I was on my medicine.
The kind of people who say shit like this

are likely the same sort who shout "SPORKS AND PENGUINS" and call themselves random. If you think you might have ADHD, see someone about it. Don't just assume you do.
anyone that self diagnoses anything is an attention whore and should be treated as such
That's a bit of a generalisation
There are those obnoxious people who self diagnose themselves then brag about their 'illness', but there are a lot of people who self diagnose because they're too ashamed of their symptoms/can't afford to see a specialist/are curious about their symptoms and don't go around telling everybody.
I self-diagnosed my OCD at a pretty young age and when I decided to go and see somebody about it when I got older I found out I was right on the money.
I'm not saying it's ever clever to self diagnose when you don't have the training and experience to see the historical and immediate nuances that help differentiate between conditions, but don't go treating everybody who self diagnoses like they're horrible people based on a loud minority
I was diagnosed with ADHD earlier this year in March via brain scan. Treatments are annoying and everyday I have to play these retarded games that apparently make my brain "faster".
ADHD sucks. I got diagnosed with severe ADHD in kindergarten and was on pills until freshman year of high school. Sucks that those medications are usually CNS drugs and fairly addictive. Was in withdrawal even by lowering dosage, hardly ate, hardly slept, had zero motivation. You don't want ADHD, and this video is useless

I take ADD medication. Joking aside, I actually am diagnosed with ADD. It's terrible, terrible. I can combat it to an extent but without medication it's just really hard to get through the day.
I'd say that I'm lucky to not experience any crazy adverse side effects from the stuff I take. The most severe of them beside suppressed appetite (and even then it's minor) is irritability. :P
I am diagnosed with ADHD, but can't afford my meds. I often do that face thing when people are talking at me. I've still not once been able to read an entire book, I am somewhere else by the end of a paragraph. I have somehow made it through life skimming for keywords as fast as I can.
Weird that they never looked into my behavior when I was younger, my grades may have been saved. Oh well.
I just really hate when people say that they have OCD. I don't know why, but it really bugs me, especially when they make those stupid "CDO" jokes because that's totally what OCD does to you

There was a user-written article on Stuff.co.nz (a web based news site for NZ that also compiles articles from other NZ based newspapers) describing a day living with OCD. I was really glad to see a whole bunch of people in the comments saying stuff about how 'they used to joke about having OCD because they are really fussy about labelling food' or whatever. It's nice to see people taking it seriously
I believe he has "ADHD" confused with "smoking weed."
Honestly though the video is rather true. Most people don't really understand adhd and just think its someone being hyper as hell, so that's where the whole "i can't read a book, prolly adhd or something cause i can't focus". Which is also the exact reason why there's currently a huge debate about adhd being a real thing or not. It's very misunderstood and over diagnosed for either lack of information or doctor's greed as they receive payment for writing you a prescription for something like strattera.
It's not about just not being able to pay attention but aslo to be unable to stop paying attention. Thoughts race in to your head fast and you can become easily fixated on a thought and begin to hyper focus in fact. You focus too hard on something and then branching thoughts occur. For me this is most prevalent in language. As i'll be in a lecture and a professor will say something like "Aluminum", at which point i hear the word echo in my head and then i start to hear it echo in my head in different accents, i then become fixated on the word and then try to devise how the word came about and it's etymology, it's history and how certain vowels can be uttered differently completely changing the sound of the word at times.
I spent 19 years as undiagnosed with adhd and had to convince my mother to take me to get a medical professional to evaluate me but finally after various tests and sessions with a specialist, i was formally diagnosed with it. I didn't just walk into my doctor's office and say "i can't concentrate" and have the doctor tell me it's adhd and shove a prescription in my hand. I went the formal route with about 3 tests and 2 sessions talking one on one with a specialist.
The video however, is actually pretty funny and rings true for most things, but just because you do exhibit some of these does not mean you have adhd. That's another problem with the disorder, how most doctors and books will simple give you a list of symptoms, all of them fairly common and generic like "easily distracted" and "talks a lot" and tells people "if you have more than 4 of these you have adhd".
Hell even today when i was at work i had to do something with a bulb in a projector and the bulbs come packed in this very shock absorbent, squishy foam blocks. i was so engrossed with the foam block that i didn't realize i spent over 45 minutes playing with the foam block. I even took it home with me as it was just trash, except i didn't take just one. We had over 30 of the things and i jammed my backpack full of them and have about 6 that do nothing but take up room and i just keep squishing them.

And they didn't even prescribe you a dose of kill yourself? Doctors these days..
People seem to talk about it like it's some kind of disease, or permanent mental disorder. ADHD is just a collection of problems (hyperactivity, attention problems, aggressivity etc) that can be trained away.
And when you say "I'm ADHD" you WILL act as if you have ADHD, further reinforcing this mental state.
"How to know if you have ADHD"? Well, that's very simple.
Go see a doctor and get tested.
I don't know if I have ADHD but like 2 of my primary school teachers had said that I might have it but at the time it didn't seem to affecting my school work so I've never been tested.
As far as I know, I don't have adhd.
I wonder if that man fucks a lot with his small asian dick.

i was watching this video thinking "wow if these are real symptoms i should see someone" and then i realized i'm high

Diagnosed with ADD when I was a kid, after a metric fuckton of tests and examinations. There's a lot wrong with me but I'm careful not to say I definitely have something unless it's confirmed by a doctor.
Ritalin sucked for me. For some reason I got a lot of side effects out of it, but at least I wasn't failing my classes anymore despite trying my hardest before.
People seem to think that ADD and ADHD aren't big problems but if you don't have support and proper treatment it can really fuck up your education, and even your later life. Hell even your hobbies.
It's followed me all the way into adulthood, and I wish I could fight it with willpower alone.
I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It might seem harmless but it really fucks with you. Glad your medication worked out well for you though.
Been diagnosed with ADHD and my biggest problem is that i talk to myself a lot. And it sucks. I try to keep myself silent when i am close to people, but sometimes i just talk to myself and people will look at me weird UGH.
Also having an attention span of a 5 year old.
Which sucks because i am almost 21 years old.

Fuck ADHD.
I talk to myself a lot too. Before I suffered encephalitis I did it even more. Vocalizing my thoughts helps me understand what I'm thinking and figure out what to do next/solve problems. It's pretty helpful.
But of course there's times where I just make up stories and talk in character. :v:
When i was younger i had a IQ test done. The person doing it noticed that i had a very low digit span. Digit span is the ability to remember a sequence of numbers. Like someone would say "1234" and you'd have to repeat it back after 30 seconds or so. She said that it was unusual compared to my other scores, and said that i most likely have an attention disorder. My parents never followed it up, and now i'm curious if i have it or not. Almost everything in the video rang true with me, so does some of the things that people in the thread say. I keep bugging my parents to take me to a doctor about it. What the fuck do i say though? I think i have ADHD? I honestly don't know how to talk to him about it without seeming like i'm either looking for a diagnosis or self-diagnosing.
Im not sure if i should go ask a doctor if i have ADD to some extent or not.
My inability to concentrate and my really fucking bad memory (no seriously, i forget things that JUST happened) is really annoying me.
If I had everything I diagnosed myself with out of impulsive panic, I would have major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, dysthymia, cyclothymia, schizophrenia, tuberculosis, hypochondria, retinal detachment, pearly penile papules, anxiety, social anxiety, mixed anxiety-depressive disorder and borderline personality disorder
Don't self-diagnosis. See a professional.
