Gun-crime in the UK may still be rare, but a drive around our roads reveals that it is far closer to home than you might have thought.
Former Marine Matt Seiber, 58, who has travelled the land in search of signs that have been shot at, says there is plenty of evidence of illegal firearms if you look for it.
He believes Britain's road signs are being used by killers and other criminals to test their weaponry before they unleash it on a live target.

fucking daily mail scare mongering
I think it's just bored people riding shotgun.
Weird, around here bullet holes in traffic signs usually indicates bored rednecks, not criminal gunslingers.
I can see why Britain would prefer to have the latter than the former, though.
lol.
yes, they're definitely shooting at a street sign instead of shooting at bottles in their backyard for hyper militant training purposes.
funny how they had to include a sign that says "hungerford" on it.
Whaaat? It's pretty easy to go out in the woods and set up a shitty target. Most sign shooters are just shitheads.
Arkansas backroad signs are littered with this kinda shit from bored kids. Of course this isn't Arkansas, so I could be wrong.
Or it's just people shooting signs? Over here in the US; it's really common out in the country. Hell, I shot a few signs myself back when I was a bored teenager. And I'm no "killer".
Guns are pretty much outlawed in the UK though right? Its not like they could just practice in their back yard like some people are saying.
lmao criminals wouldn't use signs to test their weapons on. Firstly bullets are rare as fuck if you're using an 'illegal weapon' and you'll be leaving a fucking forensics trail.
Its most likely just legal idiots with rifles having dumb fun.

They're restricted by license, and self defense isn't a valid reason to grant a permit.
Most farmers are packing though.

No its not that difficult to get a rifle or shotgun in the UK. Only stuff like handguns and other things are outright banned,

It's how rednecks mark their territory.

This (bold bit) so much, all gun crime in the UK involves a ballistics forensics service that catalogues evidence to match crimes with specific guns. If people with illegal weapons were shooting these signs they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did actually commit a crime.

FTFY.
Probably Dexter and ghost brother.
People seem to be under the mistaken impression that all firearms are outright banned in the UK.
People seem to be under the mistaken impression that all firearms are outright banned in the UK.
this probably stems from the fact that basicly no one here has a gun - which is true

You MONSTER!

Depends where you go in the country. There's going to be far less guns in central London than the Scottish Highlands for example.

in general the more people the less guns - people in rural areas (like myself) will hear hunting rifles or shotguns or whatever from time to time, but a gunshot in london is bad news
fucking daily mail scare mongering
My big brother moved out a little while ago to a place called Blackridge, and we all had a laugh when we were heading up cause we noticed a sign that said "Now Officially Handgun Free!"
Noticed a little while after that when I was heading to stay with him that the sign had been taken down.

Here we see the redneck marking its hunting grounds by warning other rednecks of it's double barrel shotgun. All though rednecks fighting happens, most disputes are settled by watching shiny cars race around in circles.

Everyone and their mum pack heat in the country

yeah, when we go tescos, we make sure to fire at the bread before making sure it's not stale

Still not technically outright banned, you are able to get some very basic muzzleloading pistols with a class 1 firearms license IIRC. Rob banks like a fucking pirate!
this probably stems from the fact that basicly no one here has a gun - which is true
Yep, it's actually pretty damn easy to get a shotgun if you really want one, there actually used to be a gun shop in my town IIRC, if you were into a lot of shotguns. Heavily restricted, but the police actually have to find a reason for you to not be allowed one IIRC, providing you meet the criteria. It's just that no-one other than farmers, some vets (I believe they can use them for humane dispatch) and shooting enthusiasts (yes, we have gun ranges) really bother with them. If you have one, I believe you are full well allowed to fire it on your own property all you want, as long as you're not shooting at people, innocent animals (if a dog is worrying your sheep, you are technically justified in shooting it, but please don't) or whatnot.

With class.
Honestly if you rob a bank with a blackpowder pistol you deserve all the money you can get
Just checked, blackpowder muzzleloading pistols (and muzzleloading revolvers!) are allowed, as are some "historical" firearms, and apparently some pistols that meet the rules are actually manufactured, though I imagine they'd be expensive as fuck. Pistols for humane dispatch can be given an exception, too.
