He's actually being singing for quite a while. Way back when Ally McBeal was around he did a duet with Sting.

Dunno if it's just me, but he kinda has a 'Dave Matthews Band' sound to his singing.
He sounds like a discount Chris Cornell. Which is still pretty good.
