• Syrian waters claim another Russian Jet due to arresting cable failure
Russia's defence ministry said Monday a Sukhoi jet fell into the sea after a malfunction as it tried to land on the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier following a bombing raid in Syria. It was the second such crash involving Russia's lone carrier in a month, since it arrived in the eastern Mediterranean to bolster Moscow's airpower in Syria. "After carrying out its military assignment in Syrian airspace, a Su-33 fighter rolled beyond the deck of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier during landing due to breakage of the arresting cable," said a defence ministry statement quoted by Russian news agencies.
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/second-russian-jet-crashes-in-failed-carrier-landing-near-syria/ar-AAl9Lqp?ocid=ob-fb-enus-280 Being Russia's only aircraft carrier, 2 losses within such a short period is a pretty serious deal.
Their carrier kinda sucks.
They don't have much fixed-wing carrier experience. I imagine their pilots lack much training on arrestor wires.
If they hadn't invaded Krim, they would have their two Mistral ships by now.
I thought they'd put their air wing ashore for Syrian operations already, or maybe that was just the MiG 29s.

So Landing Craft, Helios and any fixed wing VTOL craft you've got and that's about it.
So Landing Craft, Helios and any fixed wing VTOL craft you've got and that's about it.
Russia hasn't had a VTOL aircraft in almost 30 years
Russia hasn't had a VTOL aircraft in almost 30 years
I'm speaking specifically of the Ships in questions capabilities, not Russia's.
They should have put all their money on rubber curtain to stop the planes.
They should have put all their money on rubber curtain to stop the planes.
Some planes still fall in the sea with that too
I like to imagine that the planes feel really bad for supporting Assad's effort, so they decide to just drop into the ocean
The pilot ejected from the plane and reached the ship safely, it said
Well, that's always good to hear.
Hahaha. May many more of your planes join Davy Jones Ruskies.
^ That was uncalled for.
Hahaha. May many more of your planes join Davy Jones Ruskies.
I really don't understand some people's boogeyman view of the Russians.
I really don't understand some people's boogeyman view of the Russians.
They're kind of trying to commit a hostile invasion right now but idk!
They're kind of trying to commit a hostile invasion right now but idk!
You kinda commit multiple revolutions that ruined several countries and resulted in innumerable deaths as well as refugee crisis for no reason other than further barely profitable self-interest as well as occupied Iraq and Afghanistan but idk!
Russian navy has always been fairly shit.
I had a friend who used to be a nuclear engineer in the Navy, and he would tell me stories about how the Soviet watercraft had such terrible encryption on their communication that they could just listen in, and not respond just to fuck with them.
You kinda commit multiple revolutions that ruined several countries and resulted in innumerable deaths as well as refugee crisis for no reason other than further barely profitable self-interest as well as occupied Iraq and Afghanistan but idk!
At least both of our countries can agree Afghanistan was a terrible idea. v:v:v
At least both of our countries can agree Afghanistan was a terrible idea. v:v:v
Hmm shall we let Osama bin Laden get away with 9/11. Let me think.......
I really don't understand some people's boogeyman view of the Russians.
Me neither! Its not like they invaded another sovereign country or anythi- COUGH georgia COUGH ukraine
Hmm shall we let Osama bin Laden get away with 9/11. Let me think.......
Holy mother of fucking strawmen.
Me neither! Its not like they invaded another sovereign country or anythi- COUGH georgia COUGH ukraine
Responding to hatred of a country with more hatred benefits nothing in the long run.
Holy mother of fucking strawmen.
What strawman? Osama was in Afghanistan aided by the Taliban. Now Iraq was the result of a terrible idea based on the premise of there being WMD's. What would you do apart from letting your fellow citizens get killed and not defending them? So Osama had just flown 4 jets full of civilians into 2 skyscrapers in New York, one into the Pentagon and another into the ground in Pennsylvania. What would your decision be? Or are you just hurf blurfing?
Hmm shall we let Osama bin Laden get away with 9/11. Let me think.......
Well, on the one hand we're not on US/Russia bullshittery, but on the other this is not what I intended for an off-hand comment to try and break the proverbial ice in this discussion. I mean, the joke was both our countries have invaded the country. It was the USSR, but Russia still takes the brunt of responsibility from it's collapse if you wanted to get technical on that. That's it.
You kinda commit multiple revolutions that ruined several countries and resulted in innumerable deaths as well as refugee crisis for no reason other than further barely profitable self-interest as well as occupied Iraq and Afghanistan but idk!
Oh, I forgot that since America fucked up that makes Russia's invasion of Ukraine for territorial gain and their invasion of Georgia perfectly alright. Thanks for clearing that one up.
They're kind of trying to commit a hostile invasion right now but idk!
Let's see what the US did Tried to force airstrikes through UN to destroy the country like many others then started bitching because of vitos. Supported shady "rebel" group multiple times with guns and money, with each and every group they supported turn out to be terrorists later (they still do this) keeps whining about Assad like it's their right to choose the president for a country that counted the US as a direct enemy for over the past 50 years. And then they find a country fucked up because of war and their actions, what they do? Sanctions and restriction, because destroying a country's economy will help stop the war for sure, while it doesn't even serve their sick goal because the government never had any trades with the US for a long time, it only affects civilians, which you killed their jobs and destroyed their lives by doing this Keep up the good work!
They should have put all their money on rubber curtain to stop the planes.
Doesn't seem like that would work well at all, how is rubber supposed to stop a plane? It'd make a lot more sense to use a metal one. Frankly you'd be a lot more confident in the safety of your planes if you know that an iron curtain has descending across them.
At least both of our countries can agree Afghanistan was a terrible idea. v:v:v
Yeah we should have let the Taliban hold most of the country and eventually win against the Northern Alliance, great idea.
