Their carrier kinda sucks.

They don't have much fixed-wing carrier experience. I imagine their pilots lack much training on arrestor wires.

If they hadn't invaded Krim, they would have their two Mistral ships by now.

I thought they'd put their air wing ashore for Syrian operations already, or maybe that was just the MiG 29s.

Supported shady "rebel" group multiple times with guns and money, with each and every group they supported turn out to be terrorists later (they still do this) keeps whining about Assad like it's their right to choose the president for a country that counted the US as a direct enemy for over the past 50 years. It'd make a lot more sense to use a metal one. Frankly you'd be a lot more confident in the safety of your planes if you know that an iron curtain has descending across them.
