A gun-toting man suspected in the shooting deaths of three Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the wounding of two others in a rare case of gun violence in eastern Canada was arrested early Friday, police said.
Paul Greene, a spokesman with the RCMP, said Justin Bourque was arrested at around 12.30am.
The 24-year-old Bourque had been wanted after the shooting Wednesday evening in the northwest area of the city.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police combed the streets and woods of the normally tranquil city of Moncton Thursday in search of a gun-toting man suspected of killing three officers in the deadliest attack on their ranks in nearly a decade.
well that was anti climatic
Good.
If this had gone on longer more officers would be dead.
Somehow, I didn't expect him to surrender after this, but at least no more people died. I'd have thought he'd either kill himself or commit suicide by cop.
Yeah, it's anti-climactic, but I suppose it's better that way. He doesn't get to go out in a blaze of "glory", and no more people are getting hurt. The Bourque has been corked.
Well this is pretty much the best result that could have happened I guess.
3 people are dead, but at least additional people haven't died.

He's Canadian, what did you expect
[sp]This is a joke about canadians being nice I'm not saying canadians surrender easily[/sp]

He's not French though, or is he French Canadian? :v:

If there's anything the Quebecois aren't, it's ready to surrender. There was a referendum in the late 90s about leaving Canada and becoming independent, and it failed by a very slim margin. And then there was the FLQ.

There has to be a reason he gave up. He could have probably evaded them for a week or more, or if shooting cops was all he wanted to do, he could have gone down in a blaze of glory shooting at the multitude of officers in the area. The most likely reason he gave up is because he has something he wants to say, and the shooting was his way of getting our attention so he could say it. I hope they put a blackout on him and his trial, so that whatever it is he wants to say, he never gets a chance to say it.
Good thing he didn't kill himself or let the cops kill him, maybe now we can get more information on why he did what he did.
He's Canadian, what did you expect
Assuming THAT stereotype, I didn't suspect him to duck hunt police in the first place.
Also fuck that guy. May he rot.

I sure hope this happens.

He is paranoid, balantly anti-cop, and he believed Canada was turning into a police state.

It's really interesting going back and reading all his posts. Knowing what it all leads up too.
The minds of people are interesting.
He is paranoid
Yeah. Maybe he had some mental illness, i don't see why a normal person would do it. You can't judge people like that with normal viewpoint (not saying he's innocent or less guilty, just as in his motivation to do it).
This guy is fucked for life, it would be in his own best interest to just take his own life.
This guy is fucked for life, it would be in his own best interest to just take his own life.
No. None of us are qualified to determine if he should take his life or not, in any case, it just sounds like a treatable paranoia. We can reserve permanent commitment to a psychiatric institution after we try treating him first.

You mean like that time a Canadian counter attacked defeated a section of the german army, never retreating despite 75% casualties? You mean like that time Canada took Vimy Ridge despite both the french and british failing to hold control of it from the germans? You mean like the time Canadians held line despite chemical gas attacks, and were all left blind by the time they were relieved?
Canadians may not be the most dominant military force in the world but I don't know where in your simple brain you've put us off as ones to surrender

There's a reason why Games Workshop based the Cadians off WW1 Canadian forces.

Germans were terrified of Canadians in world war 1. Referring to us as "Storm Troopers"
Why is he being compared to Rambo? Really...just call him cop killer and be done with it. Giving him cute names doesn't help the situation.

Even Hitler had a very deep respect for Canadians. After invading France, he ordered the Vimy Ridge memorial to remain untouched. At the end of the war, German troops were also instructed to surrender only to non-Russian forces like the English, Americans, or Canadians.

The last bit is because German high command was terrified of what the Russians would do to them.
I read Rommel's diary for a WWII class at university once. If I remember correctly directly after D-day he wrote that he knew the war was over and that Germany had lost, and that he hoped the Russians didn't reach Germany first.

It was more a joke on Canadians being nice but ok
The latest episode of the QI podcast, No Such Thing as A Fish, included someone telling an anecdote about a joke going around Berlin near the end of the war.
"The optimists are learning English. The pessimists are learning Russian."
Dead baby humour at its finest. That episode also includes a bunch of neat stuff about Tren und Helle, the official Nazi comedians and pretty much propaganda. It backfired, though, because audiences were supposed to identify with Helle, but he comes off as a pompous, boastful propaganda-pushing tool (which the character was). Instead, they felt sympathy for poor Tren, who's got this guy telling him he can't grasp the situation for himself and needs to be told by the Nazi government what to believe, and he's all like, I think I can make up my own mind about the world.

Rommel seemed like a really smart, nice guy all around. It's such a shame what happened to him.
