[QUOTE]Israeli police sought to reopen the Temple Mount on Sunday afternoon but the Waqf, the Muslim authority that administers the site, refused to unlock the gates in protest of the metal detectors installed there.
Israel shuttered the Mount in the wake of a deadly shooting there on Friday.•
The Waqf sees the new security measure as a violation of the status quo on the mount, source in the Muslim authority told Haaretz. "The police won't be able to find someone to accept the keys," the sources said. "The Waqf officials aren't coming."
The police have conducted extensive searches on the Temple Mount over the past two days, entering all the mosques, offices and other buildings in the complex. At first, the police wanted to break down the doors to the buildings but in the end they agreed to requests from the Waqf to have representatives unlock the buildings for them.•
“Dozens of knives, slingshots, batons, spikes, inciting material, unexploded ordnance, binoculars and dummy plastic weapons" were found at the site, said Halevy. No firearms or ammunition were found, he added.

They were opened up a bit later, but many muslims decided to pray outside the metal detectors in protest. Source in Norwegian:

Don't want to sound like that guy but, "unexploded ordnance" does not sound like the kind of thing you'd just keep lying around a holy site

The Mufti of Jerusalem said that if a Muslim prays at Al Aqsa mosque while the Israeli metal detectors are up, his prayer is wasted. In a side benefit, Jews and Christians can now go up to the temple mount without being harassed by the Muslims that administrate the temple mount.
Best part is that Mecca has metal detectors all over
In other news, 3 israelis were brutally stabbed and slain inside their home by a blood thirsty terrorist who was upset about the metal detectors. Now people are celebrating this crime because "its a correct reaction to the occupation".
What a shitshow.

Ugh. Okay, so I tried to hunt down to origin of the public celebration pictures in the last site. They're relatively recent, and pretty rare outside of a few Iranian and Arabic facebook pages, but it looks like they were originally being posted on July 21st, so probably not actually celebrating this specific terror attack.
Just like 9/11 all over again. Get pictures of people celebrating on the same day then post them saying "look muslims are bad".
So they don't want to go and pray there because...? There's now metal detectors? That help keep them safe from future attacks?

It's a sign of Israeli sovereignty in the Temple mount. For the last couple of years Islamic movements have been treating any sign of Israeli presence or activity in the Temple Mount as a clear sign Israel is attempting to take over it.

Its kinda symbolic.
I wont comment to heavily on this because I need to read more, but I will point this out.
In my area, some high schools were having issues with drugs and knives being brought to school, so they installed metal detectors that all students had to go through every morning.
Everyone understood it was in good intentions, but it still left a bad taste in people's mouths, you know?

It's more complex than that.
While Jerusalem as a whole is under Israeli sovereignty, the site of the Temple Mount is managed by the Waqf, a Jordanian religious authority.
Now, for over a year the Israeli Islamic Movement has been spreading false rumors that Israel is violating the status quo and taking over the Temple Mount, riling up both Israeli and Palestinian Muslims and resulting in a long wave of attacks by mostly young Muslims against Israeli soldiers, police officers and civilians as well as violent riots in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
This forced Israel to beef up security around the Temple Mount, but again this was perceived as Israel taking over the Temple Mount. The previous crisis was narrowly avoided when John Kerry negotiated a compromise where Israel agreed to let the Waqf manage the increased security: set up CCTV cameras, stuff like that.
They didn't.
Obviously the attacks continued and finally a couple of days ago terrorists armed with guns made it into the Temple Mount compound and managed to kill two police officers.
So on one hand you have Israeli and Palestinian Muslims getting triggered by any Israeli security measures there, and on the other hand the very real risk of armed terrorists right in the middle of the most sensitive powder keg of a site in the region.
Until Israel and the Waqf can work out other security arrangements that would satisfy Israel's need to not have crazy guys with guns walking around there the Israeli cameras and metal detectors will probably stay.
Unfortunately this feeds into the Waqf and Islamic Movement's narrative about Israel taking over the holy site, which has already been enough to motivate at least threee more attacks against Israelis in the last couple of days, so I don't know how much they'll be willing to play along.
Complicated.
They are removing the metal detectors and putting in an "advanced security system"

Honestly probably the worst possible outcome. The Palestinians get a small slap on the wrist and Israel will waste hundreds of thousands of dollars because the Palestinian Muslims are too good for the security measures that Christians and Jews have to deal with.
Ohoho man,you are hilarious.Really.

Even though the metal detectors have been removed, Palestinian worshippers refuse to enter until the security cameras have been removed

Israelis are now complying, removing the cameras as well as the metal detectors.

Sort of like how Israel wasted hundreds of thousands of dollars the Dutch government spent on solar panels for Palestine.

False equivilence.
Now that all the security measures put by Israel have been removed, the Palestinians still aren't satisfied:
The Palestinians are now insisting that the temple mount belongs to Palestinians and Muslims only, Abbas is sending out a militia on Friday to attack Israelis, and Hamas declared a day of rage against Israel.
Israel complied with Palestinian demands and the Palestinians are refusing to back down.
thats just how they roll now lol i guess
