I wondered why I hadn't seen this movie since it came out. Now I remember, its just so goddamn BLAND. There is absolutely nothing interesting about it. Its not even funny bad, its just mediocre.
I remember watching this film and was SO BORED of it. I don't even remotely remember half the scenes showcased in the review because I slept through some parts and stayed awake for the "explosive" finale. I think I also swore off the books because if they were like what happened in the movie then I had no interest.

Personally, I enjoyed the book more than the movie itself.

Its kinda what turned me off the books too. Apparently people are split on it. On one you naturally have the people that say the books were way better. And then there is the crowd that you aren't missing much, and that the books are better, but still pretty bland and cliche. That doesn't really help the books case.
I'm a sucker for movies with dragons in them, especially if they are not villains, but for some reason, they are generally not good. And this movie is no exception. I don't know if its because fantasy is hard to do right, period, but that weird niche is just very devoid of movies that would even be considered decent.
I remember being mad hooked to the books back when I was 14 or so. Was worth the read at the time, but ten years on, I'll probably never reread the books. It's like babby's smooth entry into sci-fi fantasy.
Movies were god damn awful.

This guy basically acts as a massive red flag, letting you know whatever movie he's cast in will be utter horseshite.

For people older than 18 who are thinking about reading the books, don't bother. The writing is boring and won't hold your attention. There are way better books out there in the same genre. Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive is an amazing series, as is his Mistborn series.
I remember reading and watching this as a kid and enjoying it a lot, but I was like 10.
When the later books came out and I'd grown up a bit they were utterly dreadful and I couldn't stomach them for a second.
Also gonna agree with the above post.
[sp]Even if I think Mistborn has some very questionable decisions that cause it to linger outside of my "amazing" category.[/sp]
Steven Erikson's Malazan series is 10/10, but I think the intended audience between Eragon and the Book of the Fallen are day and night.

Poor Irons hasn't been the same since The Lion King. I don't remember a good role he was in outside of that.
The books judging from the covers did tickle my fancy for dragons when I was a teen, though that was the time I saw the film. By that time I didn't want to read them, then a relative of mine gifted me nearly the whole series. Poor things are collecting dust in my library. I never did tell her I didn't read a single page.
I've still got all my Eragon books stacked in my bookshelf. I keep em for posterity, and the cover art is decent. Plus it was the first major series of books I read one after the other, so it has sentimental value.
As for Irons, the guy is worth £16 million and I feel like every movie he's in, he just doesn't give a damn. Either that, or his acting genuinely is terrible. He's just been riding on the coattails of his Lion King success, but eh, £16 million ain't bad to live off of.

Which is really impressive, because i remember the books as being incredibly vicarious with really fleshed out and personable characters.
Though to be fair, the first book was easily the weakest in the series.

I disagree. I recently just read the last one, and i really enjoyed it. Though again, the first one is just pretty ok.
I've got a friend who says the book is better than LOTR lol

Not only better, but it "makes Lord of the Rings look like shit".
Shoot your friend :v:
a friend and I read these books way back in the day and went to go see this when it came out in theaters expecting a fun time. pretty much the only time I can remember leaving a theater and saying with 100% certainty "wow that was shit". this was also the movie that taught me to use IMDB to see who is making a film before I pay to see it. Had I done that back then I would've noticed it was being directed by a guy that only does visual effects work for movies and has never directed anything ever and known right away it was doomed. good god what a disaster lmao
I have a special place in my heart for the original 3, fourth book kinda goes way off base, but nothing
NOTHING, compares to how bad the movie was.
It's like they knew they weren't going to make a sequel and just cut as much as they could.
This movie is even worse than I remember
The worst part of the movie is the ending that hinted a possible movie sequel.
the only other part that was dreadful was just removing how saphira naturally grows but instead does whatever it does. it couldve add some character growth but nope gotta get saphira all grown up for cool dragon things that barely happen
i still haven't read the fourth book but i dont know if its worth it or if i should just pick up an audio version

I enjoyed it. Gallabatorix is a pretty under developed villian but other than that it's a great read.
I remember enjoying this book series greatly, and being so excited for the fourth book. Yet I barely remember what happens besides some key moments in each book. I own the fourth... is the series worth a re-read? I remember thinking the first book was just A New Hope but fantasy when I was younger.
i remember liking the books when i was in middle school but never had a desire to see the movie
The movie removed, compressed and crunched so much of the original book's content it's not even funny, it was literally made to be as safe as possible and to exploit the LotR/Harry Potter/Narnia hype. I remember people making fun of how they removed the dwarf characters entirely constantly back then.
I remember too that in the books the main character is the one who names Saphira after her colours, and in the movie she's just like "Hi im saphira lol".
It sadly ended up being so mediocre that it's no wonder it never got a sequel in any way, even back when I was a teen and I read the first 2 books I was dissapointed at this.

Jeremy Irons was the sole reason Dungeons and Dragons was even watchable.
Also, the audio on Jon Bailey at the end bit was fucking BAD.

The book was excellent but the final encounter was so rushed and over in a few chapters, very underwhelming
Glad i didn't watched the movie, i wanted to watch it as a laugh, but i'm glad i didn't.
I only have read the first book and enjoyed it, seeing the negative review of the next books, , didn't made me want to read the next ones.
Personally, I enjoyed the book more than the movie itself.
I loved the book and the second book when I read them, when I was in my early teens, then I got older and the third came out and it was alright and then eventually I was 20 and I tried reading the fourth book and couldn't get to the end. There's a lot of cheesy fantasy out there, and this series is one of them, it's flaws are easy to overlook when you're younger but as someone said already, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone above 18, or even 16 to be honest.
