Swedish news site, use google translate to make sense of it non swedish people. I didn't even think we had a airforce, well if we are gonna use it against russia we can kiss those planes goodbye...
The reporter is updating the site in what appears to be a comment section, but it's for the reporter to update and answer questions that is approved
Uhm.
Swedish planes are actually pretty good last time I heard.
Uhm.
They are updating it down below in the "comments", it's the reporters updating us live

Well, i i think we have sold most of our defenses away because we think everyone else will help us, so yes they may be good but they are few
Probably just a show of force. Kind of like "We're all in this together"
I doubt they would be used unless Russia touched an EU country.
I know Russia's generally really fucking stoic regarding what other countries think of their actions, but how in the name of fuck hasn't Putin as much as BLINKED at the responses?

Well, i guess they aren't taking any chances.
Funny they only start caring about it now, after years of cutting everything back and pretty much removing the army completely.

Too much botox. Anyways, I dislike the situation quite a bit.
There has apparently been debates about making military service mandatory.

Conscription?

Sounds about right

It will most likely not happen, it would take too long.

Just FYI, Sweden does this all the time when there are large military exercises close by. It has nothing to do with Ukraine(well, officially). It's a reaction to the exercise Russia had/is having.
Also, it's two planes. Yeah show of force right?
Well i would argue that conscription is good for character building especially for spoiled kids

Forcing someone to be a part of a military they might not agree with isn't going to build good character, then you're just going to get a bunch of troops who don't want to be there and might not be patriotic.

Okay i see your point

now we witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational invasion force
Well it's fun to see the soviet union coming back together, it feels like the old cold war over again. Now "In soviet Russia...." jokes makes more sense.
No it's really not funny

That debate took place about ten years ago, if not more. With the current cuts and closed down military bases, the army would be have a hard time supporting a surge of recruits at that magnitude. It would take at least another ten years of preparation and public/political greasing for that ever to be an option.
In short: that is very unlikely

Yeah also when the majority of teenagers consists of hipsters, wannabe gangsters, gamers and all of the other sissy genres...
Meanwhile, Finland doesn't do shit because its none of our business.
Our PM even said that we'd only "keep a cool head" and wait for stuff to unfold :v:
“It is essential that Finland acts as one with the EU. There is no point in making this into a race about who takes a stand and speaks out first. That’s the last thing that is needed in this scenario,”
Damnit Sweden!

So I take it you're a lumberjack and fighting wolves is your favourite past time aye?

Yeah and riding on the back of a bear, I'm like the discovery survivor man. But no i do not fight wolves, i live with them
Yeah also when the majority of teenagers consists of hipsters, wannabe gangsters, gamers and all of the other sissy genres...
That's not the problem. Young adults now are probably as unwilling to do military service as young adults were some 20 years ago, maybe more.
Just seeing that the mönstring (don't know the english word for it) is no longer obligatory just tells me that the public wouldn't take very kindly to a sudden jump to a forced 6 or 9 month service like they have in finland, unless in a time of crisis were we actually need to defend our soil.
We are whiteknights now :suicide:
hey at least there's 5.4 million meat shields between you and Putin :v:

Calm down with the broad and insulting generalizations, you do know you've pretty much placed yourself squarely in what is most likely to be the "sissy gamers" group, knowing that facepunch is a forum filled almost entirely with gamers.
This will instead lead to the Åland-wars between Sweden and Finland, where we once and for all settle things.
hey at least there's 5.4 million meat shields between you and Putin :v:
You are right, thanks eastern-swede :v:

Exactly, I wouldn't want to give up a period of my life simply for military service when I can instead spend it either in higher education or working, being forced into mönstring isn't good for anyone.
Unless as you said, there is an actual threat.
Basically, I couldn't care less if some geezer thinks it builds character if I think it seems like a waste of time that could be better spent on something more productive.
