Spock’s Beard is a progressive rock band formed in 1992 in Los Angeles by brothers Neal and Alan Morse. Neal (keyboards/vocals) and Alan (guitars) were joined by fellow musicians Nick D’Virgilio (Nick D’Virgilio, drums - also known as NDV) and Dave Meros (bass), and were later joined by veteran keyboardist Ryo Okumoto. As of now the band has 9 studio albums, with a new one titled SBX announced recently, and is projected to be released late 2009-early 2010.
The band was named for the Star Trek episode “Mirror, Mirror,” where the crew enters a parallel universe in which the parallel Mr. Spock is differentiated by his beard.
Neal Morse of Spock's Beard (1992 - 2002) is also a member of the progressive rock supergroup Transatlantic.

I just heard about this band the other day, incidentally.
Best name ever.

Agreed.
So far, I'm lovin' it.
Added to OP.
I can't decide if I like it. It's definitely weird, but not weird enough. And slow. I expected better.
A lot of the longer songs are much faster for the most part. I couldn't link them since they are too long for youtube.
