[release]Thank you for stopping by, as I have been meaning to post this ever since I started watching Battlestar Galactica. I have thought up and compiled some scientific and completely obvious fails, and some wins, within the Science-Fiction genre. So lets get started![/release]
[release]10. Gravity![/release]

Now this is just plane stupid. (see what I did there) How did the writers not even think of this.... Most shows even have a scientific adviser to issues exactly like this. For example: Battlestar Gallactica has one. So if you have ever watched any movie or TV show where they visit another planet, you might notice the fact the gravity is no different than anywhere else. O.k sure its cheaper and easier to just make it with regular gravity effects, which means no gravity effects at all. Stargate is a prime example for its gravity redundancy.
[release]9. English![/release]

So have you ever noticed that just about every single alien on most movies and TV shows speak completely fluent English? You don't even hear them speak their native language. For example: Stargate. Once again I have to point to Stargate but its not because I hate the show, its my favorite show of all time! Every single human in the universe speaks English. If you watched the show you would under stand why this is a fail. Not even the Ga'uld speak Ga'uldian to each other in private.
[release]8. Guns![/release]

Not only are they the most used thing in shows and movies, they are the most crappy. I'm not saying all of them are crappy, just a few that failed so hard they deserve their own spot in the list. For example, the staff weapons, zatnikatels, and human weapons in Stargate. (please dont get mad at me for ranting at stargate so much, it still is my favorite show!)
In defense of the staff weapons, they are apparently used for symbolism and power, but they still suck frackin cock. The fps on one of them is at least 30, and the inability to aim makes them even worse. The zatnikatels are light, highly mobile and have the accuracy of a laser pointer, but they are impossible to hold and aim. Its just painful to see them attempt to shoot one. Last but not least, Humans! In Stargate, and other shows and movies for that matter, they are given the crappiest guns possible. In Stargate, they ALWAYS carry a
P90 smg. Sure they may be highly mobile and advanced, but when I'm going against an enemy who has over 10,000 years of technological advances on us, I wouldn' trust that thing with my life. They still may be able to take down a Jafaa in about 3 rounds, which is highly unrealistic given the advancements. The poor SG teams are constantly always sent out what is obviously a sniper mission with P90's, or in some extremely rare cases an M60 lmg, and in one episode (finally), a scoped G3. I don't have time to go over every single weapon I think is bad in detail, so I'll just list some: Mass effect's foldable guns, Lost planet's shoe box of a rifle, Star wars' clone weapons (all of them, I have held several replicas, and the are so uncomfortable its beyond me how they use it especially with clone armor on), etc....

Oh and one more thing, I want to talk about mass effect's guns. First off the ammo is an ammo block... wtf is that. When I first saw what they were I was like "What is this, I don't even..." Here is a quote from the Mass Effect wiki. I dont understand how that would even be possible. it sounds like a good idea, but it is just not possible...
The ammo magazine is a simple block of metal. The gun's internal computer calculates the mass needed to reach the target based on distance, gravity, and atmospheric pressure, then shears off an appropriate sized slug from the block. A single block can supply thousands of rounds, making ammo a non-issue during any engagement.
[release]7. Vipers![/release]

This ship fails so hard it deserves its own spot in the list. Sure, I think it is one of the coolest looking ships ever imagined, but it is so frackin impractical I could frackin frack it for all frackin day. The reason it fails: it can not stand still, not even in space. What the frack. I mean really? just take a look at it landing and taking off. Why does it need to be shot out of a tube? It has and engine and the ship has two pointless runways for frack sake. And who was the genius that put metal skid instead of wheels for landing? Why does it even have to land like that? Why can't it just come to a stop and hover down like all the other ships?
[release]6. Getting Shot![/release]

This one speaks for itself. Once again, for example: Stargate. In Stargate, a fully armored Jafaa will die with 3 shots in the armor. I mean really? With ten thousand years of advances over us, they cant find good armor? Hell, we have only had consistent guns for around 100 years, and we have body armor that can stop a bullet in its tracks! And dont bitch to me that the Ga'uld made the armor to protect themselves from plasma weapons, because Tealk's staff can kill anything in one hit. And humans, who have no plasma protection at all, will survive a shot. But Gauld, who have had plasma weapons for nearly 4000 years cant take a shot, even with armor. This also applies to other shows and movies. Think about it.
And you see that picture? He got shot in the side, and is in the hospital for that small of a wound. Tell that to the SG members.
[release]5. Warp/FTL Drive![/release]

well you've probably seen most movies and shows with warp/FTL drives, but the issue I am going to discuss is which one is more realistic. Based on current technology, and obvious observations, I have picked some realistic, and non realistic warp drives. For example: Stargate and battlestar gallactica are the two prime examples. In stargate, a magical portal opens in front of the ship, where the ship gets magically sucked in and spewed out somewhere else. This may be a wormhole, but in this case, its not. Nothing is physically seen opening the hole, or closing it. If it were a wormhole, it would stay open for a long time, since it is basically a black hole, and it would be completely invisible. In battlestar galactica, the warp is a bit different from the others. This warp shows a strange orange-ish light "scanning" the ship before it poofs into oblivion. Not only is the scanning part completely wrong, the fact that it just accelerates to a million mph in under a millisecond is even more wrong. Most TV shows and movies do this. It is wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong, and it gets on my nerves. First off, any force that strong, even in space, would rip the ship apart into so many pieces it would not be recognizable from dark matter. Now the only correct warp drives so far in science fiction are stargate universe's destiny, and EVE online. The reason being is because the ship doesnt warp, it only accelerates to speeds past the speed of light at a reasonable pace. But the Destiny does much more, the blue glow when in ftl, in theory, is a shield that protects the ship from drifting debris.
[release]4. Star Wars Vehicles![/release]

Do I need to even explain myself on this one? I mean really.... How stupid can you be to design these slow ass immobile pieces of shit. Anything that walks is going to be shitty, except a halo scarab and 2142 walker. These ones just don't cut it. The slowness, immobileness, inaccurateness, pointlessness, and stupidness of these things are beyond comprehension.
[release]3. Science![/release]

This is a big issue in the fiction community, but what people like in science fiction, is the reality of it. As strange as it may seem, it's true. You don't want to see your favorite show all of a sudden go downhill when something completely out of proportions happen. that is why characters sometimes explain to another character what is going on and why it is going on. But sometimes it fails miserably. Sadly I couldn't find the video of Captain Kirk explaining what something is in a scientific like way, so I found this video instead.
Also another thing that bugged me is in Stargate when Carter would write a program for everything and anything in like 10 minutes. wtf That's not possible. There are people who have jobs who do that for you.
[release]2. Ships Getting Damaged![/release]

Ok so the video does not have anything to do with it really, but its basically like that anytime the ship gets hit with a bullet. Space ships are big, heavy, metal, thick objects in space. Now If I were to shoot a cannonball at it, It would most likely penetrate the hull, but it wouldn't cause the cockpit to catch on fire and sparks to shoot out from the ceiling like in every damn tv and movie. Its like flying a tin can with c4 inside, the tiniest spark will set the whole thing off.
[release]1. Ship Designs![/release]

I have been wanting to write this for a while now, and here goes.... wtf were the builders thinking?!?! I mean really now, the best example for this is the Prometheus from Stargate. This ship is the ugliest and most brutal thing too look at. I'm surprised it even got off the ground in the first episode it was in. I thought for sure that gravity would tear those pointless hangar decks off like ten pound weights on a stick. The whole ship is messed up. Even Colonel O'Neil said "It's a Greek tragedy, who wants that?" Obviously not me. Not just the Prometheus, but all the X303's, X304's, and especially f302's.
Now onto Star Wars. Their Venator class cruisers and Star Destroyers are god awful. The placement of the bridge is on a damn pedestal for enemies to hit. If the reason being why it is like that is because they cant see over the front of the ship, then move the damn thing to the inside front of the ship. I can't begin to descibe my hatred for the ugly ass ships of the entire Science Fiction genre, like the ships from the following: Battlstar Galactica, Stargate, Star Wars, Star Trek especially, etc...
[release]And Now For Some Wins!!![/release]
Ok now you may think that I hate everything by now, but I surprisingly don't. Here are some things I like....
Halo. You facepunchers think it is a over-rated piece of crap story that is just plain shit. Well I don't care what you think because I think it is pure genius. So, here is why I like it...
[release]Guns![/release]

These are the most realistic guns I could actually see 500 years in the future. I have studied most other guns from different sci fi shows and none compare to these. They are modern, they are reliable, and they have prestigious design.
[release]Vehicles/Ships![/release]

That is the UNSC Halcyon class cruiser and Frigate. These are just a few examples of the most realistic ships I could see in the future. The Halcyon Class Cruiser does not have parts just sticking out of the side that gravity could tare off. The Frigate is small, and the engines would not be affected by gravity. The reason they are sticking out is for more maneuverability. And the video below is just an example of a realistic ship take off that I would expect from any ship that size, unlike when the daedalus was hijacked and just lifted up out of the ground...

And lets not forget the regular vehicles. The UNSC Warthog, Mongoose, pelican, bumblebee, Falcon, longsword, shortsword, etc...
They are the most possible in my opinion.

[release]Thank you all for reading! Share your opinions![/release]
OP seems to be a Halo Fanboy.
We frown on your kind here...
OP seems to be a Halo Fanboy.

I was just about to say the same thing.
TL;DR:
Op rags on every single good and classic Sci-fi universe then praises Halo.
Also if you construct the ship in orbit, the need for it to be pleasing to look at isn't really there, not to mention that it's a fucking space ship, yeah it's ugly as fuck but it's functional and that's what matters.
Also pretty sure that the OP doesn't even have a basic understanding of gravity nor less any of the physics concepts.
Fuck it, the OP's entire post is a load of shit. You want an idea of what Space would probably look like in 500 years go read anything ever written by David Weber. More specifically, any book set in the Honorverse. That author has written some of the hardest science fiction I've ever read(Spaceships look like a NASA design team took Speed laced with LSD,stealth is impossible, ships asplode each other from millions of kilometers away with MISSILES,etc.).
every other scifi show is shit halo is best xDDD
Also, go here if you want a better idea of what the OP is trying to talk about(and failing to do so):http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MohsScaleOfScienceFictionHardness

What a wonderful post to break my automerge with...
OP has no idea what he's talking about.
I try my best
yes. still using ballistic weapons and flat metal plate armor 500 years into the future sure is correct!!! (it's not)
no shit the mongoose and warthog are most possible because they are based off of a car/truck and an atv.
Do not get me wrong, I love Halo in all of its amazing story glory, but this just sounds like the ramblings of an idiot.
Thread of the year obv
That turned into a Halo circlejerk really fast

Oh my fuck fuck that guy he made me waste my goddamn time with Out of the Dark piece of shit sci fi vampires deus ex machina bullshit.
Wow. . . Just, wow. . .
Its like flying a tin can with c4 inside, the tiniest spark will set the whole thing off
Do you even know how C4 works?
tiniest spark will set the whole thing off
You can set C4 on fire and it will burn slowly, like any organic fuel such as wood. It takes a bit more than a "spark" to set off the explosive chemicals on the inside.

As much as I love Halo...it's not even remotely as realistic as you're saying, OP. The designs look realistic because they're based on modern day ones. They're supposed to evoke feelings of modern humanity fighting an alien foe, so that the player can sympathize. Halo still falls into many a plot hole; artificial gravity, time travel, slipspace, etc. And then there's the whole 10k-diameter ring world/superweapon.
[editline]28th January 2012[/editline]
And don't get me started on the simple mechanics of MJOLNIR armor, the Pillar of Autumn's liftoff at the end of Reach, and a bunch of different things about Covenant technology.
Halo, lol.
Artificial gravity in that sense is possible. You just need a floor material of extremely high density so it has it's own gravity?
As part of the English, you should have included on how sometimes aliens actually use lingo they couldn't have possibly known unless they lived on Earth. In some shows Ive seen aliens who use figures of speech that were obviously created on Earth.
Actually, now that I've looked it up, Artificial Gravity has been mading using superconducters, magnets and a lot of electricity. For it to work on a ship you would just need to improve the technology.
OP seems to be a Halo Fanboy.

There's nothing wrong with liking Halo. But there are many other, as well as better, examples of science fiction. Such as Battlestar Galactica.
Who cares it's fiction it's not supposed to be realistic.

Can't beat megamaid.
Ludicrous Speed
Cause warp just wasn't fast enough
HALO 1 IS THE BEST HALO
It looks cool.
Science fiction writers dont have to prove shit, they put in whatever the fuck they want.
