Nike drops Manny Pacquiao because of his homophobic comments
Nike just KO'd its endorsement deal with Manny Pacquiao.
Nike (NKE) made the announcement on Wednesday -- days after Pacquiao made comments about how gay people are "worse than animals."
In a statement, Nike said it found Pacquiao's comments "abhorrent."
"Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community," the statement read. "We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao."
The eight-time world boxing champion made the anti-gay comments while campaigning for a seat in the Philippine senate.
I mean yeah Manny can share his own opinion on the LGBT community, but what really got him under fire was that he basically said that "even animals don't practice homosexuality" which is scientifically incorrect, right? Also, he barely even attends congress meetings. Why is this guy even running for Senate

Pacquiao was well-known as a boxer before that fight, which is why the fight was so hyped up.
That said, now I wish the fight just ended with Hulk Hogan entering the ring and beating the shit out of both of them.
“It’s common sense,” the eight times world champion, who later apologised, said. “Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female. If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.”
Except they have.
Is anyone really surprised that he said something like this?
he was known in the boxing community but the mayweather pacquiao fight was known to pretty much anyone who didn't live under a rock
He was already well known to anyone who didn't live under a rock. 60 minutes did a piece on him years before that fight.
he was known in the boxing community but the mayweather pacquiao fight was known to pretty much anyone who didn't live under a rock
I had never watched boxing (aside from a few classic fights) before that fight and yet Pacquiao was one of the only names of current fighters I would recognize.
But yeah his political positions were well-known to be dumb so I'm not surprised by this

Swans can be gay aswell right?
Of a more noteworthy observation, swans are fucking cunts.
Most of the Philippines are predominantly Catholic anyway, so I shouldn't expect any other kind of opinion towards homosexuality anyways

I thought that was whatshisface Mayweather.
Hope the Congress drops him out too, he pretty much just got voted in here due to his popularity as a boxer.
One of the top news reporters in the country interviewed him on this issue and it's just utterly hilarious

"Manny, you keep quoting the bible; have you ever heard of the phrase "separation of church and state"?
"Manny, you do know that even though it's called same-sex marriage, it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be married in church?"
"Manny, my only question is, should you be a senator or should you be a pastor? Based on your line of reasoning, should you be a senator in the 21st century or should you be a pastor instead?"
edit: my god I just saw the interview video and she literally had to explain to him the benefits of a civil marriage, yet he just goes on about how "marriage is sacred"

Title: Pacman on comment on LGBT: It's in the Bible
here's the video as proof although they're speaking in filipino but you can just hear the frustration in Karen Davila's voice

While that's true, homosexuality is still generally accepted socially even by the most devout Catholics here, and Pacquiao's comments also caused a huge outrage too here locally. The only ones who defended Pacquiao here are the very conservative people that came from his hometown.

Hell, bonobos (our close relatives) do too. Elephants do it, dolphins do it, monkeys do it... lots of species, including intelligent ones, do it. Really isn't a big deal. It's perfectly natural, and nothing has changed as a consequence of it. It has social utility actually.
we probably shouldn't let someone who gets punched in the head for a living attempt to speak about biology
The whole being natural or not natural thing is a terrible argument for both sides. Lots of good and bad things are "natural."
The whole being natural or not natural thing is a terrible argument for both sides. Lots of good and bad things are "natural."
I agree. It shouldn't matter if it was 100% not natural because freedom of choice and less goverment interfering in personal lives should be something we can all get behind.
The whole "homosexuality isn't natural" comment is literally his reorganization of reality to fit his needs. He already had the destination, he just need to justify it.

It seems the only case of true homosexuality in the animal world is with domesticated sheep. (http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20150206-are-there-any-homosexual-animals)
So, technically, there aren't any gay/lesbian wild animals, but it's still irrelevant to his point.
Because clearly his stance on a social issue has any effect on his ability to perform
People who disagree with me should have their careers utterly ruined, its the only way to get them to have not wrong opinions
honestly the whole nature argument is bogus to begin with
You wouldn't say rape was okay because animals engage in it, and you wouldn't say typing on a keyboard is bad because they don't.
it just isn't even worth addressing

The Bonobo monkey, one of our closest relatives, is also known for engaging in homosexual activity.
he isn't being banned from boxing, he's just losing an endorsement because that company doesn't want to be affiliated with someone they think is homophobic
if you paid someone a shitload of money to advertise your product and on national tv they said "fuck the kikes" would you want your brand to be associated with that person?
Exactly this. The whole point of advertising is promoting your brand in a positive way.

No one's going to say anything about this? I'm dying over here.

Pretty sure Bazsil just goes from thread to thread desperately trying to defend the indefensible.
And correct me if I'm wrong but don't senates provide a second review on laws trying to be passed by lower houses? If so, kinda important to not to publically show extreme distaste on the people you are passing laws for.
'His stance on a social issue doesn't effect his ability to perform his role in passing laws that could affect that social issue.' What a fucking joke of a post that was lol.

He literally can't go through a single sentence without mentioning the bible. Why are we even letting this guy run for senate :why:
oh right, money

Not that I'm an expert or anything, but the impression I've got from the "natural" thing is that it's easier to count the number of animals that don't have homosexual tendencies than it is to count the ones that do.
I don't really think less of Manny from this- he's a boxer that grew up in poor areas of the Philippines. On top of that the boxing scene isn't known for being liberal, and on top of THAT he's trying to also make it as a politician, which means that he has to do a certain amount of pandering to a certain demographic.
