Indian woman has twins despite discovery she is mostly male
New Delhi (AFP) - An Indian woman who discovered she had mostly male chromosomes has given birth to healthy twins after intensive treatment in what doctors said Monday was the "rarest of rare cases".
The 32-year-old had an intersex condition in which she had the physical appearance of a woman but had more than 95 percent XY chromosomes, fertility specialist Sunil Jindal told AFP.
The woman underwent more than 12 months of hormonal and other medical treatment to develop her "infantile uterus" to allow her to eventually carry and give birth on Friday to a boy and girl.
horrible title, this is pretty amazing tho.
didn't someone with this condition legally get married in texas because of their "scientific" laws which defined her as a man. medicine, its amazing
5% XX chromosomes were enough to construct a uterus, vagina, and the hormones to assist childbirth?

hell you can most those with 100% XY chromosomes

A single X chromosome contains everything you need to be a woman. Women are the default state for humans. Male information is carried by the Y chromosome.
Given that they indicated the Y chromosome wasn't complete, I'm guessing her body at least partially, if not mostly, ignored the damaged Y chromosome during growth and defaulted to using primarily the X one.

I think it's pretty silly to call it the woman state, more like neutral state.
I think it's pretty silly to call it the woman state, more like neutral state.

default state
though saying 'neutral' almost makes it sounds like there'd be a third standard option, like woman is 'center' compared to man to the left, then there's someone else just as far over to the right. (Not a sexuality/gender identity concept but literally a third prime sex)

Correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't had a biology class in forever but aren't fetuses female by default before possibly growing a cock
Our genitals are kind of both until our body decides what to do. Male or female, for the first couple months we have a weird combination of both. See that seam on your sack? That's where it was split into kinda-labia.
Just said it was the default state of humans.
But we really all do start out as female in the earliest stages of development apparently.
Hell, we also look like little fish at the beginning.

I'm not arguing about the default thing, we're formed starting out with the beginnings of female (technically this IS a neutral form) before other stuff starts to take over in development. You're not totally a female at this point, rather both as they're intended to start out. You're going down the road to becoming female, but then the male chromosome tells you to take a detour before you reach a certain point, then it starts reappropriating anatomy to become male.

some of the more noticeable effects of this reappropriation of in-development female stuff is things like like the seam down the middle of your balls and along the taint, which was from the beginnings of labia fusing back together. (sorry)
all I meant was that "neutral" implies it's a middle ground with options on either side. Granted there can and most of the time IS a point that you reach that isn't one perfect extreme or the other, but that's an integer between 0 and 1, not -1 and 1

just a weird choice of wording given what's mainly going on in the womb I guess

"Third Prime Sex" would be an awesome band name
Just imagine giving birth through a penis, would it stretch open like Cell's tail in Dragon Ball Z? She's lucky she isn't a true male!

Well to be fairly honest giving birth is a lot like passing a big fat kidney stone except you have to take care of that kidney stone for like 20 years before it finally fucks off and leaves you alone

I'd give them a listen :v:
I guess anything women can do, men can do too.
Honestly, the only reason anyone would call the default state a woman, probably has a bias towards women empowerment or some bullshit like that.
English is not my primary language so I chose neutral instead of default.
Women happen to be the the homogametic sex in our species, this doesn't mean that we started as women in the womb, I was tempted to say "Gender neutral" but that's just not correct since gender ≠ sex, the two X chromosomes are not identical and even if you could copy an X chromosome twice from the father, you still couldn't make a female clone since the chromosomes are imprinted with epigenetical differences.
I get how saying that we started off as female is progressive in some sense, but it's just not correct and pushing progressive agendas shouldn't come at the cost of the truth.
Changed thread title to that of the article, because the original one was pretty bad. Thank you, thank you! No applause is necessary.
I just don't want people to get me wrong, I have no issues with progressive ideologies, they have been overwhelmingly positive to our society historically.
All I'm saying is that truth shouldn't be second to pushing a particular agenda (even if it's positive)
My country was founded on progressive values, we had women rights since the day we established independence.
Literally the only secular (progressive) country in the middle-east.

What the fuck are you even talking about

I'm actually pretty clear here, are you bating for zings?
'Default state' does not imply some sort of middle ground between extremes. Default state is the starting point. 'Neutral state' does imply some sort of middle ground. It may be a starting point but if it is then it's not at one side or the other.

That's exactly what I was trying to say, I just used the wrong term accidentally.

No I legitimately have no idea what you're on about
No I legitimately have no idea what you're on about
I'm sorry?
You're talking about a pretty well accepted scientific fact and saying it's a matter of progressive policies overlapping with "the truth" for some reason.
If you ever made sense I've lost track of your train of thought a while back.

Is the scientific fact you're talking about is that we start off as women in the womb?
Well um yeah, fetuses are roughly female very early in their development before they shape into a definitive sex somewhere during pregnancy. That seems to be fairly well accepted ?

I was saying that it's not a female state, it's an "Undetermined sex state" nipples and the slit that are supposed to represent female sex organs, are just infact undetermined sex organs.
There is no reason to call that early stage female.
Do you understand?
