As military actions against the Syrian government remains a hot topic of negotiations, it has inspired professional quizzers to ask people to pinpoint Damascus on an interactive map. The US Department of Defense has apparently encountered problems.

65 guesses from within the DoD
Is that.... Greece? Someone is really dumb.
57% of the participating DoD members couldn't put Damascus on a map and the participating congress members aren't any better.
This is kind of scary.
More quality Russia Today journalism.
pfft, can't expect day of defeat players to be that smart

Stop with the blind hate already and read the article + its source. This is legit.

I'm not doubting that this is true, I'm calling out Russia Today on using it to make it look like current American policy on Syria is silly, you really think they are just posting an amusing article that has no ulterior motives? Who gives a shit if some DoD staff can't pinpoint where Damascus is, it doesn't matter.
Is that.... Greece? Someone is really dumb.
You think thats silly how did they get to south africa?
RT should no longer be considered a credible source here in SH.
Mmm, given it's funded by the Russian federal budget, by that logic should we ban the BBC?

So what if it has ulterior motives, the article just reports on the Us Vs Th3m game results.
Besides I think we should give a shit when employees from the US Defense can't pinpoint the capital of a country they're likely about to attack.
how do you vote india
like i don't know where it is exactly without names of countries but how
how
HOW

You don't get it, do you.
RT should no longer be considered a credible source here in SH.
would you mind explaining why?

As far as I saw in the source it did not state who it was in the DoD that was taking part in this, it could be a bunch of interns for all I know. This means nothing. I'm sure the people who point the missiles and make the decisions on what to attack know where the Capital is.
Who are these "DoD employees"?
There's over three million. It's the largest employer on the planet.
It could technically mean anything from reserve duty national guardsmen to intelligence analysts specifically working on Syria.

BBC isn't funded by the government, it's funded independently by the TV licence
I have a feeling quite a few of the DoD employees didn't take the poll seriously. Finding Damascus is NOT a difficult task to do and they're all smart enough to do it.
Mmm, given it's funded by the Russian federal budget, by that logic should we ban the BBC?
No. Unlike RT, BBC is one of the most level news sources in the world. If BBC starts posting incredibly biased articles as a rule then yes, they should be mocked and banned from SH, but so long as they're still level headed they're fair.
I thought people posted RT articles non-seriously, like Fox News and the Daily Mail.
The problem with that is, they don't put through stupid articles like daily mail or fox, they post truthful articles with a bias of coverage. They cite their articles.
Is that.... Greece? Someone is really dumb.
To be perfectly fair Greece isn't exactly a nice place to live right now either. You may not be dodging SCUD missiles and Sarin gas, but you are forced to live in a place where $10 a day is a fair wage in a lot of places. Greece is just as demolished as Syria is, only in a different way.

I'm pretty sure they only count the IPs coming from the DoD itself.

The Pentagon? That would be a lot less vague, but I don't think they specified.
South Africa
Really
BBC isn't funded by the government, it's funded independently by the TV licence
Which could be defined as a tax for owning a TV, surely? If you don't pay you can be prosecuted in a magistrates court by the government.
I'm pretty sure they only count the IPs coming from the DoD itself.
That's still over 30,000 people who work in the Pentagon itself.

well tbh I couldn't pinpoint Damascus myself.
Syria I could find on a map of the globe
Damascus, South Africa
The Pentagon? That would be a lot less vague, but I don't think they specified.
There's no other way they could have found out, there are probably more unrecorded DoD employees who did the test at home.

The BBC is setup in such a way that the government cannot possibly have any editorial control over it. It really isn't "state media" in the sense that RT is.

I got to 127 miles from a guess.
Also the guy who posted this posted a similar thing from the UK houses of parliament, someone selected Angola.
The people taking this quiz had to be trolling. Nobody could possibly think Damascus is in South Africa.

Yeah, excellent point, I stand corrected.
