He told the Sunday Telegraph the system must be more flexible, but did not give a clear commitment to rehouse workers. Shadow education secretary Ed Balls (:v:) called the idea "profoundly unfair". 'On yer bike' Mr Duncan Smith told the newspaper Britain had one of the most static workforces in the western world with people "locked" to areas. He said the result of that was more than five-and-a-half million people who "simply don't do a job". "Often they are trapped in estates where there is no work near there and - because they have a lifetime tenure of that house - to go to work from east London to west London, or Bristol, or whatever is too much of a risk because if you up sticks and go you will have lost your right to your house," he told the paper. "The local council is going to tell you that you don't have a right to a house there, the housing association is not going to give you one. "We have to look at how we get that portability, so that people can be more flexible, can look for work, can take the risk to do it." He did not spell out exactly what sort of commitment would be offered on rehousing, but an aide said ministers would provide incentives for people to move, rather than force them to do so. But Mr Balls accused Mr Duncan Smith of "on yer bike" politics, a reference to former Tory minister Lord Tebbit telling the unemployed in 1981 to get on their bikes to look for work. Writing on his blog, he said: "The Tory-Liberal government is doing this at the same time as cutting investment in jobs and industries and communities with a budget that will increase unemployment by 100,000 a year. "That's why this policy is so profoundly unfair. We should be investing in jobs and growth to boost employment in our regions, not cutting it back and effectively abandoning high unemployment areas while telling people they should move house to get off the dole."[/release] That's a damn shame :/ IMHO instead of considering incentives for relocating all the jobless people, it'd a lot be better if industries could relocate their facilities to those affected areas... in fact, the government should consider giving incentives to those industries (cheaper taxes, for instance) willing to relocate. Just throwing in my 2 cents; discuss!!
I have no job, i get £50 a week for sitting on my ass all day. Soon to be £65 as an incentive. I'm happy right where i am.
I'd just like a free house. I'll call Cuba and mail-order one [editline]02:35AM[/editline]
I have no job, i get £50 a week for sitting on my ass all day. And i agree, a free house would be nice.
Other people aren't happy, unless you live in the UK and are going to school, that's a different story
That's what I was about to say
I have no job, i get £50 a week for sitting on my ass all day. Soon to be £65 as an incentive. I'm happy right where i am.
see, this is what I don't like. I'm fine with getting a paycheck every week because you have a disability or are out of a job, but the people that are just lazy and don't want to work just piss me off. Unproductive to society, shouldn't be fed, shouldn't have a home unless someone wants to take care of them. But it's not going to me. call me a commy or an asshole all you want, this is my belief and I stick by it.

What's worse are the people that can work and claim extra benefits they aren't entitled to, like disability.

Why don't you get a job, Ori Child??
Rightt, I think I should answer that before this gets out of hand and makes an argument or something :ohdear: I do have a job, i've been accepted, have a uniform, even appointments for a bunch of vaccinations (eww needles). But! no start date because one of my stupid retard references buggered off so I had to get a new one. Long story short, i have a job but no start date therefore I'm on job seekers. And as for
Have fun with your shitty lifestyle you lowlife scum.
My job is in a hospital thank you very much :colbert:

What will I do :eng101: and Health Care Assistant. [editline]04:37AM[/editline] Hmm... maybe that did get a little out of hand, should have explained that from the start i guess [editline]Moo[/editline]
Edit: You should have just said that you were on unemployment.
Yeah.. oops :frown:

[editline]04:37AM[/editline] Hmm... maybe that did get a little out of hand, should have explained that from the start i guess
Excuse me for asking, but I read "Health Care Assistant = Nurse"... is it the same thing?? :P
Well, very very similar, just a Health Care Assistant doesn't have as much responsibility.
Well, very very similar, just a Health Care Assistant doesn't have as much responsibility.
Oh cool, so you're like... 80% nurse, right??
I would say more like 60% because you don't need a uni degree for it.
I have no job, i get £50 a week for sitting on my ass all day. Soon to be £65 as an incentive. I'm happy right where i am.
Such is the life in Moscow.
I'd just like a free house. I'll call Cuba and mail-order one
Why do you deserve a free house?
see, this is what I don't like.
I would say more like 60% because you don't need a uni degree for it.
Nice! Let us know when you start working--I'm sure you'll have all kinds of stories about your work that FP would like to hear :D
I live on your welfare and foodstamps, thank you society.
So they want chavs and spongers to spread in layman's terms? Bollocks to that.
So wait, as usual the chavs are being favoured again? Why don't we just give em a solid gold toilet while we're at it?
I have no job, i get £50 a week for sitting on my ass all day. Soon to be £65 as an incentive. I'm happy right where i am.
I'd much rather work and earn far more a week. £65 doesn't go too far, really. I suppose I like my stuff though, nice stuff. Edit: I sympathise with your situation.
Why do you deserve a free house?
Everyone deserves a roof over their head (provided they look after it) until they can pay their way, just as they deserve healthcare. An impoverished, sick population isn't going to help anything.
So they want chavs and spongers to spread in layman's terms? Bollocks to that.
I'm sure there are honest individuals 'on the dole', and in estates. At least if people are relocated to an area with many job vacancies / opportunities, there's no excuse for them to be unemployed and sponging off taxpayers. I know what it's like, to some degree, to be 'locked in'. Jobs are pretty scarce where I live, and I've been clawing for employment the past few weeks ever since I came out of college.
I have aswell but wherever I turn I see spongers, sad really.
Yeah, it bugs the shit out of me as well. Especially since, yeah, council estates / flats aren't the NICEST accomodation, but they do the job - and all it takes is the residents to take a little pride in where they live regardless to keep the place looking clean and, well, nice. There's nothing to stop people appealing to the council to rip up the shitty plants they put down and allowing people to put in nicer flowers, hedges or plants. Keep rubbish off their streets and ensure any house repairs or maintence is dealt with quickly, hell get a team together (and with permission) paint those god-damned ugly walls a neat clean white - and the place'd look alright.

If the new government brings in the £10,000 untaxable earnings threshold, then that could give people an incentive to get a job to be better off.
