The cost of a round-the-clock guard outside the Ecuadorean embassy in London, where Julian Assange took refuge last June, has reached almost £3m, the Metropolitan Police have said.

I think it's pretty clear he isn't coming out, guys.
It must really suck to be confined to a single building.

Because there are police outside
He is kind of in prison but a really nice one. But then again even prisoners get to go outside.

It would suck more to be extradited to Sweden, then probably the USA not long after, before being locked up without trial (EG Bradley Manning).
They should just give up and let him go.
They should just give up and let him go.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
If they had that much sense, they wouldn't pursue him in the first place.

They should let everyone facing rape charges go free if they hide long enough!

You know as well as we do the rape charges are complete and utter bullshit, Zeke. Why don't you cross the biggest global bully and see how many stories surface about your life as a sexual predator?

Assange has pissed off the USA by revealing their darker dealings. They're going to make an example of him.
I'm confused, why not just pay an ordinary squad of officers to stand outside? Then they are just doing their job.
I'm confused, why not just pay an ordinary squad of officers to stand outside? Then they are just doing their job.
Because they're bribable. And they have morals.
I'm confused, why not just pay an ordinary squad of officers to stand outside? Then they are just doing their job.
Because those officers are needed elsewhere, I think the reasoning behind numbers like this is how much they are having to pay to people to cover shifts that wouldn't need to be covered if they weren't covering the embassy.
Its all silly though, even China accepts that once you get to an embassy and seek asylum you let the person go on their way. Would be much cheaper.

Thanks for slandering the Swedish justice system and completely bypassing trial by law, I guess you're special or something so it doesn't apply to you??

and the US justice system

So who isn't, and why are they so much better?
They should let everyone facing rape charges go free if they hide long enough!
Sorry no. His lawyers defended him by saying what he did wasn't rape by law, NOT that he didn't do it.
They should just walk away, map out any route to an airport or a dock and just chill there.
They should just walk away, map out any route to an airport or a dock and just chill there.
So rather than covering the single point at the embassy they should cut costs by simply covering all routes to every dock/airport in London?
So who isn't, and why are they so much better?
That was a fallacious, dumb retort.
What a waste of money, absolutely shameful. I hope the poor guy can go home soon.
US$6mil spent trying to catch the 'suspect' of another country?
You couldn't suck the dick of America any harder without donkey punching yourself in the liver, England.

Um, surely if it's not rape by law then it's not rape?

We're doing it for Sweden, not America (apparently)
Um, surely if it's not rape by law then it's not rape?
I remind you the court ruled in the favour of extradition... It IS rape by law, and he did do it.

Once he's out and the route's been pinpointed begin moving officers and resources in to box it off or whatever they need to do, he gets arrested, officers go home, cash gets saved.

kind of ridiculously risky, any car or other method of transport coming out of the embassy could be him and I doubt they would be stupid enough to just send him out in a car without thinking of the consequences.

Assange is a suspected rapist not a fool, he knows he'd get caught if he tried to leave anyway, no matter where the police were.

uhm
neither of you fucking know
that's the point of having an investigation
