Members of the Orange Order staged a peaceful protest at the Ardoyne interface this evening. Whereas last year's celebrations had been marred by intense violence between police and loyalists, there was no sign of the same trouble this time around. Bands played music, supporters cheered and sang and demonstrators carried a large protest banner as they were halted a short distance from the nationalist Ardoyne area. Some supporters held Union flag umbrellas against the rain. Police erected security barriers in place ahead of the return parade along a stretch of the Crumlin Road that separates unionist and nationalist communities.
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/northern-ireland/twelfth-of-july-orange-order-marches-in-north-belfast-pass-off-peacefully-30426941.html
mind how a girl in glasgow got bottled at one of these last week? so progressive though, marching through the streets singing songs about being deep in 'fenian blood'
mind how a girl in glasgow got bottled at one of these last week? so progressive though, marching through the streets singing songs about being deep in 'fenian blood'
The main thing here is though, that for several years beforehand ardoyne has had violence here. This is the first time in years nothing happened. I don't know, maybe it was the rain. Personally I don't agree with the bonfires or marches, but as long as no one gets hurt I don't mind.
mind how a girl in glasgow got bottled at one of these last week?
The girl in this article? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-28187035 Seems like it was an accident, could have happened at any event.
so progressive though, marching through the streets singing songs about being deep in 'fenian blood'
Rarely happens, in fact I don't even know what songs you're talking about (never been to a Belfast 12th, so excuse my ignorance). The bands at the parades I've been to mostly play hymns, the most controversial would be the sash and that's not sectarian. Also, don't try and demonise loyalists when nationalists can be just as bad.
"could have happened anywhere" but it didn't, 12 year olds don't get fucking bottled in glasgow green in the middle of the day. also did you just join to post this article?

Could have happened at any sort of event that attracts rowdy people: protests, football matches, concerts, every weekend outside pubs and nightclubs, etc. It's unfortunate that a child got injured, but you're making it out to be more than what it is; judging all loyalists by the actions of a few.
good

I finally watched the film "In the Name of the Father" and I have to ask why some of population were really loyal to the British despite how they were treating that area like shit and suspecting a lot of people of being affiliated with the IRA Idk that film pained me as to why innocent people were locked up for such a long time and the British prosecution tried their very hardest to hide away the truth but they walked away with just a slap on the bum

I also heard a rumor that they put pictures of that 5 year old that died of cancer on a bonfire as well, because he was Catholic. I don't know if that's true though. I swear, I fucking hate living in NI. Such a shithole.

I'm from the Unionist community, but doesn't anyone see the irony of celebrating your Britishness by commemorating the defeat of an English king by a Dutchman? And William III's bigged up to be a great hero, even though he got his ass handed to him in Europe by Louis XIV's France, and only managed to win at the Boyne because he had a battle-hardened European veteran army with superior numbers against a ramshackle Irish army. IMO the Unionists would be better adopting celebrations like commemorating the formation of the Northern Irish state, or the 1801 Acts of Union.
