Doesn't stop me from enjoying these shows, I just ignore it if possible. though its hard to do if its the center of an episode. Though these examples are hilarious.
I remember when I was a child I used to think that's what hacking was. This thread is win, but the videos make me cringe so hard. The shows do that though because most people watching won't know/care about computers so it doesn't make a difference whether they use real computer terminology or just bunch some computer words together and have the camera show the loads of windows being opened up with loading bars and flashing lights. It just portrays the character as being fucking l33t to the viewer and that's all they care about. Another thing that really annoys me is in the CSI clip the monitor frizes out and then slowly dies like it's got an internet connection. Why do that? Why not just have it suddenly go blank. Why do they lie to us!!!
cannot forgot the mighty tool that is virtual basic
A Gooey? REALLY!
A Gooey? REALLY!
GUI Interface A Graphical User Interface.... Interface?
GUI Interface A Graphical User Interface.... Interface?
except no one pronounces it as "gooey"
[sp]zoom[/sp] [sp]enhance[/sp]
except no one pronounces it as "gooey"
gooey is actually how it's correctly said, though I always say G.U.I
dont they do this on purpose? like as a joke?
dont they do this on purpose? like as a joke?
I doubt the writers meant it as a joke at first, but after the internet started making fun of them they were like "Uhhh yep. It was a joke the whole time. Fooled ya!"
gooey is actually how it's correctly said, though I always say G.U.I
well which one sounds less retarded
dont they do this on purpose? like as a joke?
Evidently the writers compete with each other to make up the best bullshit.
I doubt the writers meant it as a joke at first, but after the internet started making fun of them they were like "Uhhh yep. It was a joke the whole time. Fooled ya!"
I've read that it's a joke between writers in the industry about who can come up with the dumbest shit. I think it was on reddit or somewhere I read that.
except no one pronounces it as "gooey"
The vast majority of programmers (and a lot of others as well) pronounce it that way. It's how it's been said for a very, very long time.
GUI IN VB LOL
well if we're going all the way back here again...
It kinda redeemed itself at the end, at least the writers realized that a computer can't be 'hacked' if it's powered off.
except no one pronounces it as "gooey"
There was this Asian kid in my year 12 programming class who pronounced it 'gwai'. I've heard people pronounce it as an acronym, and I pronounce it as gooey. It's up to personal preference.

Tbh. I would try to put as much bogus hacking language into the script as possible if I was a writer. It's just too fun.
i cant watch movies, which visualises hacking as virtual fight of blue and red boxes, or flying between of buildings made of green 1s and 0s. So far, only matrix visualized something close to the real hacking on the scene where Trinity uses nmap.
