• Beach Sand Can Make You Sick
MYFOXNY.COM - A beautiful beach weekend could be ahead, but as your kids are playing in the sand you may want to consider what researchers have dug up. If your child comes down with a belly ache after a day at the beach, it could be the sand making them sick. A study by the Environmental Protection Agency and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill says building castles in the sand builds the chances of gastrointestinal and respiratory illnesses, rashes, and eye and ear ailments: 13 percent of sand diggers had upset stomachs, 23 percent who buried themselves in the sand got sick. But doctors say take the study with a grain of sand, so to speak, because millions of people play at beaches and very few get sick. The illnesses apparently come from waste in the sand. Beaches closer to sewage discharge pipes are dirtiest. Health officials don't test sand the way they test water, so there are no standards for clean sand. That is why doctors say teach your kids to wash their hands after playing in the sand the way they would after playing on any other dirty surface.
:foxnews: Source i don't know whether i should take this seriously.
Makes sense. I don't see why you'd think it's "FOX NEWS!!11 eVIL REPULIBCANS R LIRARS AND STUPINDD!!!!111" They say take it with a grain of sand, so I don't understand why anyone would think they're forcing this on us. And my stomach hurt after I went to the beach in Flordia once when I was like 9.
Don't step on the sand, it makes the antlions crazy.
Laslow! Oh, Laslow! He was the greatest mind of our Generation!
Lived in florida most of my life, most I got from going to the beach almost everyday was shells, sand in my crotch and the taste of salt in my mouth. Never got ill...
Is it just me, or is EVERY FUCKING THING dangerous nowadays?
If you look hard enough, you can find sensationalist news in everything. SODA, IS IT A GATEWAY DRUG TO GETTING HIT BY CARS? Thanks to information released by the Department of Motor Vehicles, we found that the number of people hit by a car while drinking Pepsi brand cola spiked to epidemic proportions (The deaths spiked, not the drink); from ten to fifteen, a 33 percent increase over last year. This doctor recommends switching to a less death-prone beverage. Loganberry!
So if I eat a tomato with arsenic, will Fox go around yelling tomatoes are deadly?
The EPA needs to go get bent
It might be helpful if the kids weren't eating the sand and then saying they didn't
