Google announced a badge to make users aware of ad-supported apps in the "Designed for Families" program at I/O this year (see what that looks like above). Now, all apps will be subject to the same requirement going forward. Developers are getting email notifications of the change right now, and they have until January 11th to log in and state whether or not an app has ads.
Awesome! I think it's a really good idea, especially since apps already have to have a note on the store regarding in-app purchases
I just use lucky patcher to remove most ads, doesn't really bother me.
The apps that do force you to watch 15 second ads every time you do anything I just uninstall or manually remove them if it is good.

Such apps exist? Never seen any personally.
Oh i thought it said that apps were required to have ad support in the headline :worried:

Yeah, there are even ad api that allow (meaning the api creators made the app for this purpose) you to download an app to remove ads on other apps. Sketchy as fuck.
For rooted phones I recommend using https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.adaway instead of patching apks to get rid of ads.

I've always had problems with AdAway for some reason, so I use AdFree instead.

At least 8 apps I've installed before have done this to me.
One of them, I recall, would force you to watch ads every few minutes no matter what you were doing.

Lucky Patcher actually allows you to remove ads via host file, and also has a few other features like hijacking in game microtransaction for single player games, and even hides itself if you get xposed
I've always just turned my device to airplane mode when there's an annoying ad. You want to throw a small little banner at the bottom of the app? Go for it, but if it starts interrupting me, then it get's removed.
It is nice that there's a clear distinction between apps that have and do not have ads, but honestly, any app that I don't pay for I have always assumed that there would be an ad somewhere in it, sometimes I'm surprised that there isn't, but that's a rare occurrence.

My girlfriend is really into Words With Friends so I'm forced to endure possibly the worst Android application in history.. It sometimes shows a video ad after you submit a move, sometimes it doesn't. However, if you switch to another app right after making a move (like I commonly do), it'll actually hijack your app, re-open Words With Friends and make you watch the ad! Absolute insanity.

Haha, I love the measures some people take to avoid ads. A lot of my time spent in the car is dedicated to turning down the stereo to silent when an obnoxious or condescending ad comes on, and one of the gas stations I fill up at on my way to work actually has TVs built into the pumps with stupidly loud speakers just blasting 24/7 advertisements at you from a foot away while you watch the gallon meter slowly tick up. I've thought about bringing duct tape to cover the speaker slots up, but I don't want to get in trouble just to spare myself a minute and a half of "Pump Talk" or whatever it is.
aka every app on the app store
My previous phone was rooted and I had all kinds of adblocks going on. No ads on anything, it was quite lovely. Now I got a new one, it's not rooted, no adblock. Same apps, but now it's fucking TERRIBLE! Goddamn music equalizers have random ads, the fuck?
The checks are so aggressive that even apps that use the whole google play services suite are getting marked by it because of the automatically included ads service.
