Awesome cover man. Mars Volta is one of my favorite bands (the CDs with Thomas Pridgen particularly). Can you break your set down for me? What brand, wood, and size of shells? I dig the wood ring snare. Also, how did you record your drums? I don't see any drum mics.
Not bad at all dude. Sounds like you know the song in and out.
To be fair, there's still a long way to "nailing it". The instrumental part at 2:20 wasn't very coordinated, and overall you need feel.
Get those ghost notes going, and if you lose the grove mid note, just make sure you always know where 1 is, because the 2:20 part was too rough in the edges.
Overall, not bad at all, but you need more feel, and like ChestyMcGee said, your playing looks very tense and your playing style is very mechanic. But I guess if that's how you do it best, it's all good.
Your technique is really weird. Definitely need to loosen up all of your fingers, hand and wrist. The energy should be coming from your fingers and writs, not your elbows. I think part of the problem is that you're hitting the drum sideways, and swinging side on with your arm. If you keep the stick loose in your hand on an axis, you can 'grip' it with your fingers and it'll move to hit the drum. Sorry for the bad explanation. I can kinda see what he's saying, but you do look like you're pretty loose. I think it's just the fast movements, and you put a lot of power in your hits, but really sweet job dude. I fucking love these guys.
