You still require an Internet connection to authenticate when the game is booted.
:sigh:
Wow, they grew a brain. Finally.
:sigh:
Does this mean that you still can't play this game offline?
Does this mean that you still can't play this game offline?
It means you need to be online when the game starts, but any time after that you can disconnect without it pausing like it used to.

:saddowns:
There's also the possibility that Ubisoft planned this from the beginning. Throw very high, then start to "ease off" back to their intended status.
In their eyes, if the constant internet connection worked, great. If not, they could always fall back to their original plan, nothing lost.
This would be good if I could actually get the games to start at all with this DRM thing.
But since I need to be online when I start the game, I don't think it'll make any difference to me, because it says I don't have an internet connection even if I have full connection. :sigh:
I'll have to try it out later though, just to be sure.
Only a little worse then before because when your internet is down/ you're in a bus/ train/ airplane you're still unable to play.
It helps the people with a unstable connection tough.
About time.

It's a step in the right direction, at least.
Good news! My connection is very unstable.
I'm pretty sure I called that quite a long time ago, back when it was released
Too lazy to search for that post though
So it's still 'net based DRM, but you don't get dicked over if you disconnect while playing...genius! Why didn't someone else think of that before?
Oh wait...
Now I can play Conviction and Ass Creed 2
Now I can play Assassin's Creed Brotherhood! :smug:
So they went from extreme shit to still shit?
[editline]4th January 2011[/editline]
Im still not going to buy their shit.
Now they just have to leap one more generation ahead and figure out how to do their DRM with a single authentication check. Then I'll consider buying it. This is a game I'd play when my internet goes down for fuck's sake.

What they need to do is realise DRM's don't work, and never did or will work.

All it really did was delay the inevitable, which is basically the point of DRM, to keep away the pirates long enough for the initial sales wave of release

playing assasin's creed on the bus like a pro
New games, however, may still ship with the always-on DRM, Ubisoft confirmed to Shacknews.
One step forward and 2 steps back, eh?

I think we all thought the same, it's great it happened
