Prime Minister Tony Abbott has vowed to "do the right thing" and attend his sister's same-sex wedding but insists he will never support the union.
Speaking with 3AW's Neil Mitchell, Mr Abbott said his sister Christine Forster's engagement to her partner Virginia Edwards will not stop his government from attempting to veto the ACT's newly passed same-sex marriage laws.
"I am a traditionalist on this," Mr Abbott told 3AW, before revealing that "if there's a ceremony of some kind, yes, I will be there with a present. I'll do the right thing".
But despite his well wishes, the Prime Minister says the nuptials will do little to change his view on the contentious matter.
"From time immemorial in every culture that's been known, marriage, of that kind of solemnised relationship, has been between a man and a woman."
The Commonwealth has now lodged a claim in the High Court challenging the validity of the ACT's same-sex laws.
Except the Ancient Romans and Greeks have known same-sex marriages for centuries, as have many other cultures.
what a backwards cunt
I thought it was traditional to put your family first.
Well if you are going to "do the right thing", fucking allow same sex marriage you numpty.

Common Sense? The Liberal Party? HAHAHAH WHAT ARE YOU ON?
He sounds like a right cunt, to be actually that entrenched in your beliefs that you won't accept your own sister wedding.
Absolute fucking arseholes and the fact he has any sway in politics is fucking shameful.
I'll be surprised if his wedding speech isn't a series of grunts and incomprehensible insults.

And you know what happened to Ancient Rome and Greece
that's right
Goes to the wedding, sees them wed, then seeks to have the marriage null and void.
Life in the day of PM Tony Abbott.

They couldn't handle the pressure of The Gay so they sold the empire part by part to the germanic and forced the emperor off the throne? :v:
Oh god his sister looks like a male version of Tony Abbott, it's scary.
Can't believe how much of a backwards cunt he is, god dammit.

Nonsense. I'm sorry but acient Romans traditionally saw marriage as a heterosexual thing with the specific intentions of landownership and producing new citizens. In the early days of the empire there are few accounts of two men geting marriage rites but it certainly was not a celebrated thing for centuries.
I hope to Zeus he doesn't even get an invite.
These two are like Walter White and Hank. Tony Abbott is trying to stop gay marriage and his sister is getting married to another woman.
what a backwards cunt
I think he has every right to disagree with the sentiment. Is it right to do so? No. But we live in a free world, and alas, that means people also have the freedom to be stupid.
His sister's a lesbian, what a shame.
I guess I'll have to read up on his daughters.
at the wedding when the priest or whoever conducting it goes "Does anyone object these two from being married, please speak"
He'll launch himself and go "I object because uhhhhhh, uhm, uhhh"

we need to stop the boats and stop the same sex marriages
Except the Ancient Romans and Greeks have known same-sex marriages for centuries, as have many other cultures.
I bet he's never even watched Spartacus.
I hope he's not welcome there
I hope folks pour their drinks on him.
If you don't believe in it, don't act to the contrary. Saying one thing and doing the opposite just makes you look stupid to everyone.

Men who took it up the arse in Rome/Greece were also looked down upon as submissive and unmanly compared to men who gave it out, this is why males generally went for young boys.
Blowjobs were also seen as dirty and crude.
Wow, what a dickhead.
"Yeah, I'll come to your wedding, but I don't support it at all."
That's an awful thing to say to your own sister. Cunt.

Homosexual relationships were not too uncommon but marriages were near non-existant.
