Browsing the local recycler yesterday when I noticed this beast thing sitting on the bench. With no way to test it and no idea what it really was besides some sort of camera with a firewire port and a 1/2" image sensor I had to pay the $15 for it.
Here's a teardown.

Teardown and reassembly was super easy as inside it's two boards and a metal box that holds the CCD with a fan cooled heatsink so massive it takes up 90% of the camera.
It's obviously NOT a regular camera. A bit of research shows that thermal imaging cameras are a lot more compact but there is a possibility that this is in fact a high-speed camera and capable of taking something between 250-1000 pictures a second.
Kinda like the below examples.

The thing is I can not confirm if it is or not, nor can I figure out who the hell made it. There's no branding or identification marks anywhere on it. The only thing that seems to be repeating is "BETA #8" which is written on the inside and on a sticker on the back.
If this is a high-speed camera and I can get it working, I promise you Facepunch that I'll record myself getting kicked in the nuts and upload it to youtube.
It appears you have a beta model of something.
I love high-speed footage. They're so, high-speed.

A BETA #8 to be exact.

Maybe its a super high speed camera

That one says #2, could the same board just been used for #2-8?
You should record yourself being slapped instead, it's actually much funnier.

Could it possibly take between 250-1000 pictures per second?
It looks like a research based high speed camera, they film in black and white and usually in resolutions like 32x32 or similar.
Put it back together and take some awesome shots!
I dunno man it looks pretty fast. You probably shouldn't mess with it too much.
You might die.
What you got there is a beta device for a black hole generator.
Make a Portal device.
Plug it into your computer and see what happens.
Don't use it, you'll slow down time!!!!!!!
Its a laser.
No seriously.
I want to see someone make a post in slow motion

would be an amazing find
fix it and film yourself fapping

also, high speed cameras are ridiculously expensive, nobody in their right mind would throw one out

No.
Dude most high speed cameras film at 10,000+ fps.
Not really. Most do 250-1000 fps depending on what camera you're suing.
Connect it and find out.
