The Problem
Finishing the upstairs so I can move my bed into there.
The Solution
• Fill and Paint walls • Build built-in wardrobe • Carpet - I'm torn whether to lay the carpet myself or to get a professional in to do it. On the one hand it'd be nice to learn how to do it, on the other it's not the easiest way to learn.
Media

ETA
A month or two for full completion. I'm getting it ready for the carpet right now, because I don't want to be making mess on a carpet.
Wow that room looks really good. Good luck, Garry.
Garry can we have some pics of how the carpet and the walls look in the rest of the house? what are you planning for those walls and carpet anyway?
I'm going to be looking at a creamy white carpet. The walls will all be white in my house. Here's some more pics of this room. I need to find a way to finish this part off. I think I'm going to put an extra bit of wood at the top so there's a lip leading to the stairs, then the carpet can go over and under the lip. This stud wall needs to be plastered. I'm an awful plasterer but I'm determined to get better. I sanded and undercoated this piece of wood today. These pipes are from the heating/aircon system. I'm still waiting for the guy to come and put the nozzles on them.
Garry, I'm sorry but do you really need separate threads for each room you're renovating in your house?
Well you seem to have it under control. I know this is probably not related, but all the white and the windows of the room make me picture that you could go for feng shui. Keep it simple, clean, and maybe put some indoor trees under the windows. Probably not what you're going for but thought I'd share.
I like the skylights, I can see that room being an office.
My dad's office at our old house looked exactly like this, except the staircase was at the end of the room rather than the side. Had 3 roof lights and all.
i have one suggestion: get a telescope and have it aiming out of one of the windows, you will never regret it
Hah that's a good idea
How big is the bed youre moving in? Is is dismantable?
I don't have a bed, I'm going to buy a new one when I get the carpet down
My dad owns a carpet company, shame I think you live quite a distance from Kent don't you? Could have got you a good deal.
Didn't have squash tonight, so I plastered this bit of wall instead. It gets easier when you realise that it's not got to be perfect in the first coat.
How high is the ceiling in there? Looks low enough for head-clonkage to be a risk factor, but that may only be because the handrail on the stairs is taller than it looks. Nice job on the plastering, this ought to be a hell of a nice room once it's finished.
It is low, I'm 5'9 and haven't hit my head yet.. but have a couple of taller friends that both have.
The wall is only there because to the left of it there will be fitted wardrobes. [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] I won't have my desk up here. It's too bright.
Goddamn it, you could have turned that room into a secret super villain lair with bleeping supercomputers and WMDs lying around. But nooo, you just sleep in it. :v:
I prefer my office areas to be more open. Skylights would be great for an office, but a ceiling that low would start to feel claustrophobic. Perfect for sleeping, not so much for working. Some fitted shelves/wardrobe on the far side of that little wall outcropping would look pretty sharp. You going to be building your own furniture or outfitting it with stuff you've already got?

I just noticed how the lightstand looks so much like something ingame...

[editline]8th March 2011[/editline]
I just noticed how the lightstand looks so much like something ingame...
Maybe that's because it's a simple, generic and solid design. Even though there's lots of different lightstand models on the market, they pretty much all look the same.
Telescope would be pretty redundant in Walsall. Too much light pollution.
I dunno it work ok for my friend: http://www.scott-h.co.uk/word/?cat=11
plaster doesn't look too bad. It's a fuckin art to get perfect though. how did you make sure it was flat?
That's the like room of my dreams :smith:
That's the like room of my dreams :smith:
That's a nice room and all, but you don't have very big dreams.
I wasn't too bothered about the plaster being flat, I was only skimming on top of the plasterboard so I couldn't really go far wrong. [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] Waiting in for my shower screen to be delivered today. Going to lay skirting board. I'm pretty sure when you're carpeting you lay the skirting board before you carpet. Do you leave a gap underneath to tuck the carpet under?
That's a nice room and all, but you don't have very big dreams.
I do. Just not with rooms.
Painted the wall yesterday. And filled and painted a load of other places. Preparing it for carpeting, hopefully next couple of weeks.
Found this site.. http://www.spaceslide.co.uk/wardrobe-doors/info/ Looks good. Will probably buy my wardrobe from them instead of trying to put one together myself. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] Fuck me, what are the chances, they're in the same town as me, about a mile away.
