Perfect
A man who was discovered in a snowdrift in the Norwegian capital Oslo has emerged from a coma to reveal he speaks perfect English but has no idea who he is or where he comes from. The mystery man, who calls himself John Smith but does not know his real name, was found with a cocktail of drugs in his system and cuts on his wrist suggesting they had been strapped. He said he is not Norwegian but may be Czech as that is the language he understands best. He also understands Slovak, Polish and Russian and speaks with a heavy Russian accent. He told Norway's NRK channel: 'The cuts were deep and it took several months before the wounds healed. It was quite obvious that my hands had been tied together. 'I was paralyzed and could not speak. But the doctor said it was different drugs in the system. I'm desperate, scared and want nothing more than to get out of this situation. 'I think I'm Czech, it is the language I understand best. I also understand Polish, Slovak and Russian. But I think and dream in English.' The man was discovered by a passerby in a snowdrift in an industrial part of Oslo on December 15th. He spent three days in a coma before coming round. Police took fingerprints and released his picture to Interpol, but so far investigations have drawn a blank. He added: 'At least I know I can't be a criminal, although I almost wish I was. Then they would have found out who I was. 'I woke up with a nurse beside me, and as I did not understand, I asked her to speak to me in English. I remembered nothing. It was so funny when she asked what my name was and then I couldn't remember it.'
Little more in Dailymail Source wow, he actually fucking is John Smith The last part of what I quoted from the article really gets me though. Goddamn, the feeling of trying to think of your name only to draw a blank; it's like having a door in your brain to a memory you have, but the nameplate on the door is blurry as fuck and you can't quite make it out, oh and there's no handle to the door, leaving you with a blurry doorhandle-less door of a brain
Jesus Christ that is horrible
Someone, somewhere, has to know who he is.
'A Norwegian man captured footage of a meteorite passing extremely close to him during a skydive' and now this. What's next Norway? :tinfoil:
Not sure what to think about this. On the one hand, he could be telling the truth and is in fact trapped in his own personal hell. On the other, I'm told that real-world memory loss is quite difficult.
A real life Jason Bourne.
this is really scary to me
I wonder what happens now, which country is he a citizen of, will they allow him to stay in Norway? If yes, then what would stop people faking this to get into another country?

Are there any other sources than the Daily Mail?

Authorities have been trying to determine the man's identity for four months by sending photos and finger prints to East European police forces via Interpol and searching through missing people databases. They say the man has since has agreed with police to seek the public's help in trying to identify him.

Someone, somewhere, has to know who he is.
yeah, the people who tried to kill him
this is really scary to me
You're not even Slovak For all I know this guy could be my neighbor
A real life Jason Bourne.
Uh, i think something like this happened before. A teenager from Croatia lost her memory and has only been speaking German and French after she woke up.
He's possibly Czech, his parents here have supposedly recognized him, he didn't recognize their faces nor names when Police passed these to him. He also apparently understands Czech very well. They are going to carry out DNA tests.
yeah, the people who tried to kill him
Well for all intents and purposes, the man he used to be is pretty much dead now
He's possibly Czech, his parents here have supposedly recognized him, he didn't recognize their faces nor names when Police passed these to him. If they were his parents they probably have something to proove it...
DNA tests? Couldn't they check his facebook/personal number, so on? If they were his parents they probably have something to proove it...
Not so easy when you don't even remember your own name
He could have pissed off the wrong people. Pretending to lose his memory means he didn't have to explain who may have done this to him, and probably stop whoever was coming after him. Why kill a man who can't remember shit right.
Well for all intents and purposes, the man he used to be is pretty much dead now
In roughly 20 years time it might be possible to rebuild the severed connections in his brain, so for all intents and purposes the man he was is in a coma.
Not so easy when you don't even remember your own name
He means that the parents could have dug up his facebook or social security number as proof that it is their son.

Well this sounds authentic, hopefully it doesn't end up like that forest-boy thing.
how do you even wake up speaking and thinking a different language? i'm thinking that he must have learned early on in life and forgotten or something
It's clearly viral marketing for the next season of Lillyhammer.
Breaking News: Norwegian man captures footage of aliens while driving to work in Oslo.
Update: Turns out man was just angry at immigrants. More at 11.
how do you even wake up speaking and thinking a different language? i'm thinking that he must have learned early on in life and forgotten or something
Iirc the brain stores things like foreign languages you've heard in an 'inaccessible' part of the brain, and in very rare cases, trauma can lead to it mixing up stored languages with known languages.
Russian sleeper agent
All those languages. No fucking way. He's got to be some kind of intelligence agent.
Iirc the brain stores things like foreign languages you've heard in an 'inaccessible' part of the brain, and in very rare cases, trauma can lead to it mixing up stored languages with known languages.
I could kinda believe this, but it works on the assumption that your brain somehow knows what the words mean as it stores them. Recognising words and storing them is one thing, but that information being usable is something else entirely.
